Re: Hidden Forum Thread?

If you need to see a working example of that, check out my malware removal board (link in my signature) - all the website pages (links at top of pages) are posts from inside such 'hidden' forums, including the MWR University page which will NOT show the post without being registered and logged into ...

Re: Upgrading to 3.0.7 frm 3.0.5 without loosing current mod

Something to consider for the future is an update 'complexity ratio'. What I use as a complexity ratio is (standard) x (number of Mods +1) x (number of non-standard styles +1) For updating a standard install with no mods or stiles you would have = 1 x 1 x 1 = 1 complexity. if you have just a few Mod...

Your disappointment should be directed to whom supplied your software in the state you received it - your hosting company.

Re: how to protect my phpbb forum from potential hackers

For those who might like to use SFTP to replace FTP here is a link to a blog article with the 'how to' info for the client side. http://malwareremoval.com/wp/vista/164/ ... -a-how-to/

All my servers have been set up to only use SFTP for over the last 3 years.

Re: how to protect my phpbb forum from potential hackers

Just like with MS Windows installations, a 'hack' will come in via any known vulnerability. EG a vulnerability in a PDF reader can infect your windows XP machine. For servers it can be from vulnerabilities in the op system itself, the added 'server' software such as PHP, apache, MySQL etc, the hosti...

Re: v3.0.8

No - that is not quite right. This is my 'laymans' version of how it works. 3.0.x are 'maintenance' releases for the current version. 3.1.x is the next version - using mostly the current codebase. 4.0.x is the next almost complete re-write version. You can expect quite a few maintenance releases to ...

Re: Putting google ads in other subdomain while using phpBB

Hi You can do what you want with the phpBB software - subject to the licence it has in the package - it would not effect what you can do elsewhere on your domain. Please note - this is the second time we have removed links which were not required within your posts - please note links which are not f...

Re: What is a reasonable avatar file size limit?

Hmmm. I allow 100 x 100 px on some and 120 x 120 px on others. File size itself is not restricted. Server drive size is not normally an isssue where the distortion of the forum page might be. The problem of page refresh or download time for visitors/members is not just avatars - but also signature g...

Re: Is phpBB the right application for me ???

One other option for you is the blog type software which I feel is perhaps more targetted to do what you are asking for. Forums are typically for multi authors who are also readers. They are designed for interaction between the posters within the topic of choice. Blogs are typically witten by one (o...

Re: TPI - Forum ratio

I don't think a single type of 'statistic' is very useful to 'grade' forums. They would depend on what the forum is about as to how that statistic could be interpreted. Take a discussion type forum, and the higher the number of posts per member the better. Take a help site where 'hopefully' the user...

Re: Preventing Spam in 3.0 [*Read First Post*]

thier is no bug in the custom profile fields - if you have them set up correctly so they are required with a default which is invalid they should work.

However the simple yes/no one will be answered by bots 50% of the time right ;)

So you need to use the number version which it will find harder.

Bots can do that easy - so that is no help to stop them registering.

this is what I see with IE7

The 'corner' and edges of the boxes are distorted. Particularly on the right hand side.
