Re: DB backup size much smaller in v3.2.7 vs 3.2.5

I have no idea why v3.2.5 was saving the files uncompressed with a ".gz" file extension? I bet you have used Chrome as your browser when you downloaded the files via acp ;) There is a know issue (Google may callsit a feature) that Chrome uncompresses .gz files automatically when storing them on dow...

Re: DB backup size much smaller in v3.2.7 vs 3.2.5

Looks right, and that's what the text looks like in Notepad++. I have no idea why v3.2.5 was saving the files uncompressed with a ".gz" file extension? Regardless, looks like the size difference was due to the compressed vs non-compressed size and the backups are valid.

Re: DB backup size much smaller in v3.2.7 vs 3.2.5

Ok, so using peazip I tried opening both the older (v3.2.5) larger file and the smaller latest file. It gives me an error about it being unable to open the v3.2.5 gz file? I tried it on previous backup files and same error. Does that mean that all my previous backups were for nothing (luckily I neve...

DB backup size much smaller in v3.2.7 vs 3.2.5

I just did an update from v3.2.5 to v3.2.7. Normally I would just do a direct to computer download of the database from the ACP. The file size of this has been around 13MB in v3.2.5. After upgrading to v3.2.7, I manually downloaded the backup database from the server as direct ACP downloads are no l...

Re: Board v 3.2.7 no more backup download available

Yes, I was aware of that. But as a founder account, I can access members email address, posts, and setting (through the board and ACP) without having to download the database. Is it that downloading the database would just make it less laborious to collect all this data via the phpbb web interface?

Re: Board v 3.2.7 no more backup download available

Ok, this is probably a dumb question (forgive my ignorance), but what is in the database that the founder account would not have access to anyway?

Re: Board v 3.2.7 no more backup download available

I am also not exactly sure about what security risk this poses as if they get access to the admin account, they can pretty much read/change/delete anything on the board anyway. But I'm not an IT expert so maybe there is some security flaw that I am not aware of with downloading the DB. I was using t...

Re: Discuss: phpBB 3.2.6 Release

Oh, I see. So it's not access to the database that was restricted from the ACP, merely the placement of that archived database.

Re: Discuss: phpBB 3.2.6 Release

Glad to see a new version out. As a non-IT person. Can somebody explain what the security advantage is without being able to download the database from ACP? If you have admin privileges, you can do whatever you want to the board (ie read any posts, delete anything, etc.)? I was using this to backup ...

Re: Reset Password too long

Furthermore my users also often forget their usernames as well, and there is no reminder of this in the standard reset password e-mail, which there could easily be, as the whole process is simply linked to the users registered e-mail address. Has anyone any idea how this process might be tweaked to...

3.2.3 to 3.2.5 update using the knowledge base instructions went without incident.

Excellent work developers, thank you! Happy new year to you all.

Re: Board spam attacks (not hacked)

I also had a big spam attack on my board. I use a question that worked well in the past. I really think it's just a human cracking it once and then bots make new accounts. I have to approve the first post so my users never saw it but it was annoying to clear out those accounts. Seems like the emails...
