Pret personnel search results

Just searching for pret personnel (without "spam") returns this thread #1. Down to #20 or so now but still #1 with "spam" in the search. If Pret Personnel was put back in the title then after a few days I expect this topic would go back to number 1-3 in the results (based on what else I see there c...

Pret personnel spam

That, and the posting of the linked text, was especially for the benefit of search engines in the hope that this post would eventually get a good ranking (phpbb has a pretty good ranking anyway so any new topics usually benefit from that). Then other internet users who search for terms related to t...

Re: What is the best seo mod?

As people have already stated, most major search engines, including Google, ignore META tags now, because they were so abused in the past. Google at least still looks at the description tag as far as I know. If you sign up and use Google's webmaster tools, one of the checks they do on your website ...

Re: Invisible spam

This has been observed previously . The best way to combat it is to stop it -- there are tips for doing so here . Thanks. I did do a search but as I searched on the name, or the linked text, obviously I didn't find anything here :). This kind of spam is partly what prompted me to start writing a mo...

Re: VERY subtle but effective link spammer - BEWARE!

A side effect of the style we use here is that links are always underlined -- makes it quite easy to spot links that shouldn't be there. Like this They've gotten slightly more clever, and now include the underline tags inside the color tags so the underline is the same color as the background also.

Invisible spam

Here's a nasty spam trick I haven't seen before. Someone (or a robot) is posting text followed by invisible links to spam forums with URLs to "pret personnel" websites (I don't know what they are, I haven't looked), which will be picked up by search engines, but are easy for forum admins and mods to...

[DEV] Allow admin URL posting if disabled

Please note, I am very inexperienced with php so assume I have no idea what any unintended consequences of this hack might be. But it seems to work as intended so far. I'd really appreciate it if anyone who has experience with php (and phpbb coding) could check that what I've written doesn't have an...

Thanks for your replies, appreciate it (and apologies for taking so long to reply myself). >Dog Cow: That sounds useful, I'll try that. I had already added an if ... else to force several disconnections whenever the limit was reached, but it didn't seem to have the expected effect. >ric323: Thanks, ...

Shared server - is my forum too big now?

I'm getting the mysql max_connections error on a daily basis during busy times. I'm trying to figure out if it's because it's on a shared server and I've outgrown it, or it's a scripting problem because I've done something wrong with a modification, or something else. Any comments would be welcome. ...

Re: Activating 2,700 Inactive Users

I am assuming this is a phpBB2 forum, as it is unlikely anyone would have got to that number of inactive users with a v3 forum yet. I have. I only just noticed a couple of days ago member number was up to about 2500. Admin > Users and Groups > Inactive Users lists them, and Admin > Users and Groups...

Re: 3.0.1 to 3.0.2 auto-updater problem

I think I had a similar problem so I went through the update process again. In the list of modified files, they were all updated except for one at the bottom of the page hidden under another heading (I forget what now). It was adm/styles/acp_forums.html. I downloaded, unzipped, and uploaded that fil...

Re: display url's without http://

I've found half a solution to this. In file includes/functions_content.php at about line 577, comment out this line: $url = 'http://' . $url; // $url = 'http://' . $url; But this results in the link interpreted as a relative URL so the board URL is added before the www. I haven't figured out how to ...

Re: Bypass Max Links Per Post?

I've been trying to find a way to do this too. The best I can come up with as a quick fix is to hack the includes/message_parser.php file by adding a userid check to the line that tests if there are too many urls eg replace if ($config['max_' . $mode . '_urls'] && $num_urls > $config['max_' . $mode ...

Re: Post and user rating system phpbb 2.0

Thanks. What I'm hoping is that by building it in to my phpbb2.0 board, I'll learn enough to be able to either modify it for phpbb3, or write one from scratch. I can only just barely hack around the phpbb2.0 code. I've looked at the phpbb3 code and it's completely beyond me with my current level of ...
