Re: Crazy Maths CAPTCHA Plugin

Ordinarily, you'd assume it's in radians if there's no symbol, wouldn't you? I've given a link to the image to my mods in case anyone complains about captchas in the future :D (the fact that the question has no answer is only a bonus!) Sadly, I can't really use the mod myself since I think my users ...

Re: Inactivated users are still sending PMs

The changes I've already made to the forum make updates more tricky than it would ordinarily be; I have to take all changed files and do a line-by-line diff on them because none of the basic options produce an updated forum with the mods preserved. Given there hasn't been a phpBB update in about 6 m...

Re: Inactivated users are still sending PMs

We're getting a few dozen a day spam signups - for the most part, this doesn't bother us because their spam on the board itself gets pushed into a moderation queue, but some of them have also sent out up to about 1,500 spam PMs. That's the main problem, especially as they deliberately don't PM the a...

Re: Inactivated users are still sending PMs

Is it possible to create a group for inactive members automatically, or would I have to manually add people to it?

Re: Inactivated users are still sending PMs

Both. Email banned (which yes, I know is not a proper banning) and inactivated.

Re: Inactivated users are still sending PMs

They're not just being sent after deactivation/banning - they're being created after it, as far as we can tell. I deleted the PMs from that user in the database (both in phpbb3_privmsgs and phpbb3_privmsgs_to) on 26/05/09, but there are now PMs listed with that user as the author, and the timestamps...

Inactivated users are still sending PMs

Exactly what it says in the title: we've deactivated spam accounts, and they say "Account deactivated by adminstrator" in the admin control panel, but they are still sending spam PMs. I can probably stop them by deleting their account altogether, but this should not be happening at all. Yo...

Re: Problem installing - Internal Error -

You look like you're on fasthosts - they don't allow .htaccess files, as I've found out. I deleted any ones I could find, which is a bit of a security hazard but it's the only way it'll run.

sid shows up in URLs and logins fail without it

Basically, I have a file, ratings.php, in my /forum directory which I would like to use the phpbb login system. I have it working under phpbb2 on another server, but since phpbb3's login things are different, I need to recode it to use the new logins. My problem is that unless I access it using a ur...

How necessary is the .htaccess file?

There appears to be a conflict between .htaccess and some settings on my site's server which prevents me even starting the phpbb3 installation. After googling the problem, it turns out that we're probably not allowed to have a .htaccess file that does what phpBB3's .htaccess does (can't confirm this...

Re: How much bigger is the phpbb3 database?

Thanks, guys! Based on what you said, I decided to do the test conversion on a local Ubuntu machine, rather than online - slower, but I was glad I did when it turned out the db did go over the limit by about 30mb during the conversion :) Despite not needing the search index, the converted install tu...

Re: How much bigger is the phpbb3 database?

Oh, I agree, but I haven't really a say in the matter :) While it's my site, I have to rely on other members to host it, and this is what's currently on offer to me so I have to try and work around that.

How much bigger is the phpbb3 database?

I've had to move hosts to a site where I'm given 150mb space for a single MySQL database. Currently, my phpbb2 database on my old host is 127mb, though a version I have on the new hosts without the search-related tables is about 60mb, and that's the one I plan to convert to phpbb3. Once phpbb3 has t...

Notification emails being blocked?

Recently, users on my board have been saying that notification emails to Hotmail and Gmail accounts (for things like PMs, signups, etc) are not going through. I tested it for hotmail and mails are indeed being completely blocked. They're not being put in Junk; instead, it's as if they weren't sent a...

Yes- the error was that the tunnelling link had failed; the query it was attempting to execute at the time was legitimate as far as I could tell. The data that's been uploaded is sensible, too. It might simply have been that it timed out; I've increased the time before the link times out but if it f...
