I find most regular members don't understand the elements that make a poll work well or look good, so I usually only allow Staff and Admin to start them. Everyone likes to voice their opinions. Personally, I think they can be helpful, as long as they are clearly written. That means that the QUESTION...

I wish more of the experienced board owners would take the time to reply to this. Seems that once most folks get their own understanding of phpbb, they don't want to reach down and help the next new guy that comes along. Some of us 'get it' more slowly than others, and gentle helpfulness from 'those...

I'm a newcomer too, and one of the best things to do *I* think is to keep your forum very basic, use subSilver style only at first. Keep a spare forum just like your real one on your server to practice on. Works great to learn how to do styles and upgrades on. Make sure you're using version 2.0.17 o...

Plz correct me if I'm wrong.... quickly

Hi, I'm a newbie  with a phpbb 2.0.16 board, ...fixing to upgrade to 2.0.17. My understanding is that I can unzip the Changed Files Only, and via FTP, just upload the new files to the appropriate directory, overwriting the old ones of the same name. If this is not correct, will someone please ...

I've been with siteground for a couple months and am VERY happy.
They offer the hand-holding kind of help a lot of us new folks need.

melban, thanks for the comeback. I have a question.... If I were to migrate ALL 14,000 posts in the old database over to my newest board, what would happen to the existing threads that are in my current forums now? Would they be overwritten? I don't want the structure from the old board, just some o...

Possibly, but wouldn't that bring ALL of the threads over from the old forum? I want to leave the old forum intact, and select just SOME threads for transfer to the new forum.

Thanks for any input. :D

Graham...Thanks for getting back to me. Please go back to my FIRST post in this thread. THAT is the information I am looking for. I DO have access to the database, and I have help from the support team at my current hosting company, should I need them. I was hoping that if there was a way for ME to ...

I don't have the kind of backup needed for a merge, that's why I asked about importing selected threads. I CAN say, "Stay way from GoDaddy.com for hosting." They wanted to charged me $150 for a backup when I could no longer get a full backup via the ACP. I don't really know how to articulate the 'we...

Thanks for the input, Dicky, but those two choices are not possible for this. The old board has a wierd situation with the database, which required us to begin anew. I just hate leaving some really great information behind.

Anyone else have ideas on this?
