Re: High Server load from Database Hits

For now i managed to stop the server overload by adding my domain to cloudflare and turning on the under attack mode, If you are using Cloudlfare all the IP's are now from Cloudlfare accessing your server. Anything that utilizes the IP like phpBB or your server log files will have Cloudlfare IP's. ...

Re: High Server load from Database Hits

I noticed that my board has a continuous level of 1000 guests which is very high, That's an understatement for a forum that size. There is nothing within phpBB to stop traffic to your site. You need to first determine where the traffic is coming form, is it single IP or random IP's? Source country(...

Re: Can I sell second hand theme here?

Loool, no, you cannot resell any kind of product you buy digitally. Depends on how it's licensed but such items are typically licensed as non transferable. Unless you paid for that, but you didn't paid above1000$ so there is no way you are able to do it. Transferring the license for single copy wou...

Re: Recommended file attachment size

You can set default file attachment size at the highest you want to allow, for example zip fileS may need more space than images. You can then set limits for the attachment type: ACP >> Posting Tab >> Manage attachment extension groups >> Click green gear next to group >> Set limit based on what it ...

few seconds? You asked if this was like going through new install process, I'm answering your question. The seconds would be relevant to the final step when you update the database. You do not have to go through the process of filling out any forms as you would with new install. As far as updating ...

Re: Hoe to deal the a phpbb Forum who do so illegal actvity?

In the US its easy to accuse someone to be a Paedophile even the never get convicted the Media could say XY was convicted as... In the US your freedom to say just about anything you want is protected by the first amendment and will remain so. What this protects you from is criminal prosecution by t...

Re: Hoe to deal the a phpbb Forum who do so illegal actvity?

BTW: sometimes I read (as a german) on boards where eg. people sell and buy weapons, which is illegal in Germany, but the board is a US board, so I guess it is legal in the US. Shall I call the german police? If it's gun site all of those transactions will go through licensed firearms dealer. The g...

and going through the install process as if a new phpbb install. When you point your browser at /install/ it doesn't go through new install process. It's just going to update any changes to the database between your version and the new version. Minimally it will update the version number. ;) Typica...

Re: avatar

The physical avatar files have extensions so the Filezilla issue should not apply AFAIK, it should correctly use binary since it will know it's an image. Files uploaded to posts have no extensions and it defaults to ASCII. ----edit-------- Avatars and files uploaded to posts are served through https...

They are sorted by last post so replies will change the sort order. Unless you posted them in backwards sequence c, b and then a and then locked them preventing a new post with an out of the box installation no you can't.

Re: Is my forum being scraped?

I tried blocking China, but ended up with too many mails from legit forumites on layovers. With Cloudflare you have choice of blocking them outright, issuing a JS challenge or captcha. They get a brief page that says "checking your browser" and then it will direct to the page after a few seconds. A...

Re: Where/how is $this->file->get('mimetype') cached?

Agreed; hadn't gone deep enough to see that. But perhaps "potentially not used?" The $mimetype parameter is still being provided to the core.thumbnail_create_before event, which allows the PHP GraphicsDraw-based thumbnail generation code in create_thumbnail() to potentially be skipped entirely. It ...

When you mention bad bots, are we just talking from a sense they ignore the robots file, or that they are up to no good in indexing your site.
Any bot that ignores robots.txt would be considered bad bot and is likely up to no good.

Re: Is my forum being scraped?

I use CloudFlare myself and many years ago I put the JS challenge to the test. So I JS challenged my IP, disabled JS in the browser and all I got was a block page then a resume to my site. It's one of the things they use to block DDOS as well. You need to use it with caution, I would never use it f...
