Re: Google Indexing Question

Thank you. I installed the user agent extension for Chrome, but when I ran it I only saw the main board index of my site as I normally see it. I am not sure if I did something wrong or what I am supposed to be seeing when I run the user agent extension? When you use Google's user agent phpBB should...

Re: Google Indexing Question

First I would check to see what Google is seeing. Install a user agent switcher in your browser, log out of the forum and switch it to Google user agent. you may need to close the browser and/or clear the cache. And can I change what Google shows for the description of the site to something more mea...

Re: Re-use of existing attachments

In addtion to the options you have listed it would be nice if existing attachments were searched for same file name, size etc. If a match is found give the user a dialogue box with thumb. "You may have already uploaded this file, use existing file instead?" And then even once you do find the attachm...

I am not sure, but I don't think it is really possible to get answers from Google directly.
You can sign up for Googles Search console (formerly Webmastertools), it will give you lot of detailed information about what it is indexing, problems etc.

Re: My CPU spiking up

For a moment there, I thought I was getting DDOS'ed -- asking myself, how did I piss off the Chinese? Thinking it may have been the known Chinese Censorship DDOS attack being done to sites they dislike. If you get hit with DDOS the countries of origin can be anywhere. The person who controls the bo...

(Will it be OK if the DB still contains all the old Mod-tables? ie. Will it be ignored?) Don't wanna screw this up and thought I would ask the pros first! 8-)
Unused tables/columns only become an issue if their names conflict with new ones added by phpBB or an extension.

I'm not sure what you mean?
If you are blocking by country Singapore and Hong Kong are listed as countries on CF.

For those that sought to address this issue by blocking Chinese IP addresses, be aware that bad bots with the same User-Agent strings are now attacking sites through IP addresses in Hong Kong and Singapore.
If you are using CL these need to be blocked separately.

Re: My server IP is always being blocked by spamhaus

Look at an email header and make sure the domain is correct, in my case since it's sent through the "main" IP it's actually the hostname. Use one of the email testers to confirm it's right. This is not something you want to screw up because it will cause emails to bounce especially with the -all . I...

Re: My server IP is always being blocked by spamhaus

Like I said the SPF record is good for keeping emails out spam box, unless things have changed and they are clamping down I doubt it's causing the IP to be blocked. Most sites don't have one because it's really the site owner that needs to set it up. The host can't really set this up because if for ...

Re: My server IP is always being blocked by spamhaus

Today it was blocked again :( I doubted DMARC was the issue. SPF, DKIM and last but least DMARC can help keep email from going to the recipients spam box. It shouldn't cause it to get blocked let alone the IP getting blocked. This was a new IP they issued you? You said this was VPS, is it a WHM con...

Re: My server IP is always being blocked by spamhaus

it is a host server setup issue and there is nothing you can do about it. That's DNS entry and requires specific email address. It's really not something that is hosts responsibility and if you were using external nameservers something out of their control to begin with. Most sites are not going to...

Now that I'm getting older I do a fast walk to the toilet in the morning, does that count?

Was on cross country in HS but that was just conditioning for wrestling. ;)

Re: My server IP is always being blocked by spamhaus

Spamhaus was the only blacklist maintainer who was cooperative to me. I wrote them that they cannot have any complaint from the IP address my server is on. Turns out they blocked a whole subnet (just like all other blacklist maintainers do) with my IP address in between. Same thing was happening wi...

Re: Viewing phpbb Forum inside Local Apache Host

... but when I direct my browser to the forum folder, all I get is a file list. What happens when you try to directly load index.php? e.g. http://localhost/index.php If that works see this: http://httpd.apache.org/docs/trunk/mod/mod_dir.html#directoryindex That may not be the only issue. As noted b...
