Having a separate forum and DB won't be any use until I have some ideas to try out on it to fix it,.....
That query I posted will change the config value that is likely causing the issues in the temporary folder. You can't change it on the live database because it will screw up the live forum.

Re: Global moderator or Global moderators?

I'll spend some time reviewing the permissions as described in a day or two. I haven't quite got my head around the permissions model yet. Neither have I and I have been using it since 2007... I'm joking but it is a complex system and one of the complaints about phpBB. On the other hand if you unde...

Re: Can't get the DB upgrader to run

Not sure what the issue may be but if you are just testing things you can make a copy of the whole database. Edit the config.php file in your temporary folder to point to the copied database. Run this SQL query on the copied database: UPDATE `phpbb_config` SET `config_value` = '/forumtmp' WHERE `php...

Re: Can't get the DB upgrader to run

It equates to exactly the same thing and I don't believe this is the source of the problem. Based on your screenshot it's directory path issue since the CSS file is not be loading correctly, if you look at the source for the page it probably points to wrong directory. Some of those values can be pu...

Re: Can't get the DB upgrader to run

Hi Steve, Thanks for your reply. I followed the instructions here: https://www.phpbb.com/support/docs/en/3.2/ug/upgradeguide/upgrade31/ Downloaded the full 3.2.2, downloaded a copy of my own forum, and merged them as instructed. Thanks You are misunderstanding the directions, the backup copy you do...

Re: Global moderator or Global moderators?

Go into the ACP >> Users and Groups tab >> Click Manage Groups on the left On the top is "User defined Groups", there is likely a moderator group there that got converted to User defined Group. Delete it. The predefined Groups on the bottom are created by phpBB and should include: Administrators Bot...

Re: Some very noob questions

If they're a decent hosting company they should know what to do. It's usually caused by either cloudflare or varnish. We're not a support site for either of those so we don't know the settings they have. By default Cloudflare only caches static non HTML content; images, CSS, Javascript etc. They do...

What about: https://www.phpbb.com/community/viewtopic.php?f=456&t=2407621 ? This would be useful if for example you wanted to upload images that were not necessarily part of post. For example you can use an image for each forum, those need to be uploaded with FTP but you could utilize something lik...

Re: Quick Reply Enabled But It Doesn't Show

Open the ACP, on the left click Board Features. Find the enable quick reply option and set to yes, click submit button on the bottom. Any individual forums that have it set to yes will now have it enabled. Alternatively you can click the button right below that setting and enable it on all forums wi...

Re: Some very noob questions

Thanks for the answers. I'm now doing some experiments. Let's say my board address is http://mysite.com/phpbb/ , how can i automatically redirect form "mysite.com" to "http://mysite.com/phpbb/" ? Assuming Apache server you would use a .htaccess redirect. https://www.google.com/search?q=redirect+roo...

Re: image extensions

If I, for instance, set the total attachment file size(as in all files) to not exceed 500Mib(default was 50) I would set this based on the available hosting space. If you have 4GB available set it to 3GB or whatever. Once the alloted space is used up you'll get warnings from phpBB about it when you...

Re: hosting question

That is when certificates aren't being used? Would it be worth using ssl if I have that option? I think with my current plan, I do not. Not sure it's something I could afford to add on right now but I could look into it. Correct, SSL encrypts the data between the clients computer and your server. W...
