Re: The plain HTTP request was sent to HTTPS port

I'm not. But I kinda assumed you were since you spent so much effort tracking down this bug with me :). Oh, somehow I thought you proposed filing a bug against PHP itself, but I see now you proposed to file a bug against phpBB. Sorry for the confusion. I'll read that bug report now. Thanks for repor...

Re: The plain HTTP request was sent to HTTPS port

Are you a phpBB developer? What do you think about phpBB working around this?

Re: The plain HTTP request was sent to HTTPS port

I forgot to say I noticed when ssh'ing into the machine it said

PHP: 5.3.10-1ubuntu3.15

Would it do any good to file a bug against PHP? If they fix it, it will be fixed in a newer version but that doesn't change the old version, right? Maybe phpBB can check for different values?

Re: The plain HTTP request was sent to HTTPS port

Find on line 2196: $cookie_secure = $request->is_secure() ? 1 : 0; Replace with: $request->enable_super_globals(); $cookie_secure = (isset($_SERVER['HTTPS']) && $_SERVER['HTTPS'] == 'on') ? 1 : 0; $request->disable_super_globals(); With your code I get port 443 and bad request again, but if I repla...

Re: The plain HTTP request was sent to HTTPS port

My host settings show that it's running on PHP 5.3 but I can switch it to 5.5. It doesn't mention the minor version in more detail though.

When I have time I'll do some debugging and find out all the values in that piece of code during runtime.

Re: The plain HTTP request was sent to HTTPS port

getenv(HTTPS) returns 'HTTPS' over https and '' over http.

Does that feed into $request->is_secure()? Since it's assigned to $cookie_secure I assumed that was based on the secure cookie setting.

Re: The plain HTTP request was sent to HTTPS port

Looking at the code in includes/functions.php, this is what happens: 2180: $server_port is set to 443 (presumably from the $_SERVER['SERVER_PORT']) global because I'm connecting with https. 2183: branch into the else because force_server_vars is set to false 2196: $cookie_secure is set to false acco...

Re: The plain HTTP request was sent to HTTPS port

I haven't asked the hosting provider. I didn't expect it could have anything to do with the hosting.
I can contact them but I'd rather have something specific to say. Can you think of any server settings I should be looking at or asking about?

Re: The plain HTTP request was sent to HTTPS port

Server name: 0 [General > Server settings > Domain name] is set to "www.norwoodgroep.nl" (without quotes). But "Force server settings" is set to "no" so that setting should be irrelevant, no? (Names of the settings might be slightly different as I use a different language UI.) With that line comment...

Looks like the environment variable is empty.

$_SERVER[SERVER_PORT]: 80

Re: The plain HTTP request was sent to HTTPS port

I deleted the cookies, went to the https URL of the forum and tried to log in. As soon as I submit the login form, it goes to http with port 443 in the URL and shows a page with 400 Bad Request The plain HTTP request was sent to HTTPS port nginx The output of your script is currently Server port: 80...

Re: The plain HTTP request was sent to HTTPS port

Sorry for the late response. I thought I was subscribed to the topic as there was a marked checkbox next to "Subscribe" but it turns out I still had to click on "Subscribe". Very confusing. The result is here: Server port: 80 getenv(SERVER_PORT): 80 $_SERVER[SERVER_PORT]: 80 Forcing server vars: fal...

The plain HTTP request was sent to HTTPS port

I recently acquired an SSL certificate for my website. Not all my users are able to connect via https so at least for now I want to give them the option to either connect through http or https. So I can't enabled the secure cookie yet. I thought I saw this work before, but now when I use https, when...
