Re: Current Bot Attack

If you search for wp-login.php you'll find many requests for it even if you don't use Wordpress. If you carefully look through the logs you'll also find multiple requests for files and folders that do not exist, they are just looking for potentially vulnerable scripts or services to exploit. That's...

Re: The ethics of allowing posters to edit or delete their old posts for any reason. Is it their right?

If it has already been archived by the wayback machine or another alternative, it won't matter much really. Or if you maintain long-term backups of your database, you can restore from a backup. Many years ago I considered a revisions system where every version of a post is saved in a separate versi...

Re: FAQ... the spambots magnet!

If someone isn't clicking a link, how does Google know to connect these search queries to your board's Search Console? There is two metrics; clicks and impressions. Impressions is how many time my board was listed in a search from those keywords and clicks how many times it was clicked from there. ...

I assume there is no click tracked because the spambots must be following the raw links rather than Google's redirect.

Re: Google indexing posts

You should also installed the sitemap extension. It helps google crawl your site. Are you sure about that? I was always under the impression that sitemaps had little benefit for dynamic sites and are intended for static sites. Let's read what Google has to say about sitemaps: Learn about Sitemaps .

Re: Recommended extension for Magento 1.9?

thanks guys, but the OP should have mentioned that instead of assuming that we all knew it or that we would go look it up to be able to help . Nobody called on you to help. If you don't know what something is, perhaps you could refrain from replying, just like everyone else does. And someone who ac...

Re: Optimizing large boards

Some years ago there was a topic on optimizing large boards to improve performance and I haven't found anything similar for 3.2. That topic is about a decade old by now, and times have changed. PhpBB 3.x incorporated a lot of the optimizations and queries suggested in that topic, as well as other o...

Re: Image orientation in plupload, using EXIF

The world is in landscape so what possesses people using phones to constantly take portrait images of cars and mountains and houses? It makes no sense to me. Lazy people who want to use only one hand to hold their camera thing. You can hold them sideways with one hand too, but it's awkward. Otherwi...

Re: Using Google's reCapatcha in phpBB

Earlier this year Nexus implemented Google's reCapatcha, just to prevent bots from getting access to peoples account on Nexus. How would a CAPTCHA have anything to do with accessing a particular account? The password would still be needed. The same reason that a CAPTCHA has anything to do with regi...

Re: Bad and good bots/robots

‘Good bots’ are those like Google bot that search your board for interesting stuff and indexes it in their search engines so you get hits when you search the internet. Yeah, I'd say that the good bots are the ones that directly benefit me or the site. And the bad bots are the ones that serve me no ...

Ah, interesting. It seems an unintended consequence of making the tracker so available to everyone is that everyone ended up using it! And the developers were overwhelmed. Hum-ho.

Re: Tracker tickets are disregarded

And yet, I remember phpBB development of 12 or so years ago being a lot more closed than it is now, so much of what is available to us now is, at least in my eyes, a big improvement over things in the old phpBB 2.x days. I realize this doesn't really contribute anything toward the situation that you...

No clue. Visiting a dozen news websites I do not see any indented paragraphs.
I don't think the OP cares what other sites look like; he just wants indented paragraphs on his site. :)
