Re: Which extensions increase site engagement?

I found that if you periodically send an email to users who have not logged in for a while, a good number of them will indeed log in and check out what's new. The key point is to make sure that there's something new for them to see! :)

Re: Goodbye

Yes, it is regrettable that you can no longer participate in phpBB, but as you say you have made a long run of it. 20 years! I concur with some of your observations about phpBB today, as someone who has been a part of community since 2005 . TO EVERYONE who cares about the future success of phpBB: ge...

Re: Archiving Board to Preserve Data

Thank You for your response. To be honest any tool that might work. Do you have a suggestion? I'm open to any kind of help I can get :) I recently tried using HTTrack software to mirror my phpbb Board which kind of worked. It was able to copy the and convert the site to HTML. But my CSS formatting ...

Re: What is the Future of phpBB?

as far as I know it is still the number one used free bulletin board software on the planet. Not sure how you arrive at that. Yes phpBB may be the most downloaded, as opposed to used, bb software but how far is that going back? I post on a handful of forums on different sites and most are NOT runni...

That's the driver, not your actual DBMS.
It's pretty safe to say that the driver indicates his actual DBMS. :?

Re: PHP mail() vs SMTP

Wich one is better? Wich do you recomand? What's the difference? Both methods use SMTP because that's how emails are sent on the Internet. The difference is that when you choose to use the PHP mail() function, you may be limited to a SMTP server defined in the php.ini configuration file, and there ...

Re: Current Bot Attack

If you search for wp-login.php you'll find many requests for it even if you don't use Wordpress. If you carefully look through the logs you'll also find multiple requests for files and folders that do not exist, they are just looking for potentially vulnerable scripts or services to exploit. That's...

Re: The ethics of allowing posters to edit or delete their old posts for any reason. Is it their right?

If it has already been archived by the wayback machine or another alternative, it won't matter much really. Or if you maintain long-term backups of your database, you can restore from a backup. Many years ago I considered a revisions system where every version of a post is saved in a separate versi...

Re: FAQ... the spambots magnet!

If someone isn't clicking a link, how does Google know to connect these search queries to your board's Search Console? There is two metrics; clicks and impressions. Impressions is how many time my board was listed in a search from those keywords and clicks how many times it was clicked from there. ...

Re: Google indexing posts

You should also installed the sitemap extension. It helps google crawl your site. Are you sure about that? I was always under the impression that sitemaps had little benefit for dynamic sites and are intended for static sites. Let's read what Google has to say about sitemaps: Learn about Sitemaps .

Re: Optimizing large boards

Some years ago there was a topic on optimizing large boards to improve performance and I haven't found anything similar for 3.2. That topic is about a decade old by now, and times have changed. PhpBB 3.x incorporated a lot of the optimizations and queries suggested in that topic, as well as other o...
