Re: Rapid phpBB Development - Oh the Joy!

One thing that I should point out is that other projects (like WordPress for example) have many more people working on patches and so forth. That didn't just happen by magic though, it was promoted by the leadership. phpBB ended up slowly moving in that direction while I was on the team. Up until t...

Re: Rapid phpBB Development - Oh the Joy!

Were they critical faults with phpBB? I had filed some reports 5 or so years ago, and I don't think they have all been acted upon either, though some of them have been. Critical or non-critical issue isn’t really what I’m getting at. The point is it’s been more than 6 years since a major release wh...

Rapid phpBB Development - Oh the Joy!

5.5 years ago, I filed a series of bugs. Those have just now been fixed! The speed at which development progresses is amazing (I'm obviously being sarcastic). In all honesty, great! They are fixed... but... almost 6 years later?!? Most projects have moved on so far far along by now. What has happene...

Re: A bit of government related discussion

I can’t go through and read the entire topic, but just read this one paragraph and had to comment on it... "however, just like has been said about our form of government, "it aint perfect but it is better than anything else out there"." Please explain that and how you come to tha...

Re: Who thinks the Pope should be Jailed?

It’s the question: How do the rich get rich?
People who work hard, have great ideas, are shrewd, there are many ways that people have figured out how to 'get rich'. So yes, Lumpy is highly accurate. Give them a shovel, and they will find a way to get rich. Is there anything wrong with that?

Re: Hard to spot police cars

In both Nashville, TN and here in Spokane, WA, there are unmarked police cars. Everything from marked and unmarked Suburban, Dodge Stratus, Chevy Impala, Dodge Intrepid, Dodge Charger, Chevy Malibu. Even a few more exotic unmarked and marked police cars, including my favorite, a Dodge Viper.

Again, you can have a fall-back for this too. And JS would only be required by the admin, right?

Re: What does phpBB staff use to program?

but it's a huge memory hog This is what I dislike about most fancy IDEs, yes they come with some nice features (like zend studio/phpDesigner/etc) but they kill your pc especially when you're not running a real powerhouse. If I had 8Gigs to play with, it might not be a big deal, but my intel chip is...

Re: Making a MOD Kill switch...?

Exactly, you have 4 possibilities: Well-formed response, MOD stays enabled Well-formed response, MOD gets disabled Bad response (could not parse JSON or similar), MOD stays enabled Timeout (could not reach host), MOD stays enabled In the case of bad response or timeout, it could return a “click her...

Komodo edit here as well. I actually like Zend Studio for Eclipse a little better, but it's a huge memory hog. Komodo Edit is nice and light, with great features. (and free)

Re: Making a MOD Kill switch...?

Best thing to do would be to build in a version checker. I’m not a fan of remote kill. But with a version checker, you could notify the admin in various ways. Notification on the board, a PM, even an e-mail if you wanted.

Re: Firefox 4.0 Beta 1

I like the IE dev tools, it makes development of CSS / JS possible on IE, which is nice. But it does not come anywhere close to being half as good as Firebug for Firefox. Chrome’s developer tools are not bad either, but still doesn’t match Firebug.

Re: What does phpBB staff use to program?

Don't be so quick to laugh. If you have a wii remote and a light pen, you have a white board. ;) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5s5EvhHy7eQ Yes! Although I was referring to a USB Whiteboard that accepts the input right into the computer. I had not considered using the Wiimote as a camera to create ...

Re: Firefox 4.0 Beta 1

I was hoping Safari 5 would have implemented the process-per-tab feature that Chrome has, Safari is by far the most stable of the browsers, and the fastest, but the memory issue is too big to bypass. If Firefox 4 can implement that feature, Firefox might jump from #3 to the top of my list. What do y...
