If phpbb were having security issues I would say maybe this was something to worry about. however, as far as I know there are none so why worry
Lack of 2FA -is- a security issue. It is industry standard these days just like TLS is.

Re: Three features you would like to see in 3.3.

Two-factor authentication is best practice and it makes no sense for a forum software not to have it because a forum software's reputation, in terms of security, is very important. On my board I force 2FA for all admins and global moderators as part of my security practices, which are listed on my p...

Re: SSL HTTPS help URGENT PLEASE HELP

I agree Cloudflare is very useful even on the free tier.

One thing to remember is that any non-Cloudflare subdomains like mail.example.com could reveal the server's real IP if not correctly configured.

Re: Three features you would like to see in 3.3.

Forums are social media. Some forums are better social media than others. Millennials are currently people with ages around 17 to 36, which is the core demographic of probably more than half of all forums. It is important for phpBB to evolve to meet user expectations. Likes are great. They provide p...

Re: Recomendations on image hosting services

I use the AWS extension and all attachments are uploaded to AWS. If you don't have tons and tons of pulls and gets and the storage is less than 5 GB, then you won't pay anything. Go above that and it will only be pennies a month. I have also used imgur on my other forum where I don't allow attachme...

Interesting to hear David. Thanks for this informative reply.

I would "like" your post if I could. Maybe we'll see that as a 3.3 feature? :P

Twitter doesn't offer RSS feeds anymore, sadly.

For both of these I think you'd need to use some an API.

Re: Three features you would like to see in 3.3.

I've come back to these boards with good intentions to start helping people with phpBB like I used to and to catch up on what I've missed while I've been using another (commercial) forum software, and as I look around the ideas section and the suggestions forum, and in the responses above, I'm seein...

Re: Include reply in Topic reply notification email

Then the compromise would be... a snippet? Giving the first 200 characters of a post only and ending it with "read more at:". That's a step I would agree with, because most of the times the post wouldn't be there in full (unless it's a rather dull board to begin with). Think of search results displ...

Re: Permission Descriptions

Permissions are often one of the most daunting steps for new admins on any forum software. Clear, complete information about them in an easily-found place would be useful. Ideally the permissions page could link to a wiki article or something?

Re: Notification by an email about the new release phpBB

The way I've been doing it on my forum is to import RSS feeds and have the forum create a new post in my admin forum when there's an announcement from the official site. This lets me know when there's a new release. I'm not sure Vanilla phpBB 3.2 can do this (I'm a little rusty on phpBB's most recen...

Re: Option to prohibit avatars from insecure sites

Wouldn't it make more sense to proxy the images on the forum?

A proxied image would look something like:

Code: Select all

https://example.com/phpbb/proxy.php?url=http://some.insecure.site/avatarimage.jpg
I agree that allowing avatars to be uploaded is the easiest fix.

Re: [3.2][RC] Privacy Policy

I just want to thank you for all the work you've been putting into this extension and making sure it's good to go before the GDPR takes effect. You're giving a lot of forum owners more peace of mind and also helping keep forum users informed about their rights/data.

So, a big thanks to you.
