UTF-8 in username_clean?

I have a user with a ! in their name, and instead of having a ! in username clean, it has the UTF-8 character U+01C3 (which is a !).

What on earth is it doing in there?
Its kinda counter intuitive and its messing up my queries.
Isnt username_clean supposed to be clean of anything like that?

Re: Extra Variable in Topics URL = Poor SEO?

That is simply not my experience, I have two forums that I monitor. One has a URL mod applied and the other does not. The first gets about 50 pages indexed per day and other gets 800 indexed per day. the only difference between the two is the URL's. In fact the first one is on more prominent site s...

Re: Extra Variable in Topics URL = Poor SEO?

Really? We are in the age of dynamic content - i do not think google (for example) missed this step. ;) I agree. My personal theory is Google can detect exactly what software a particular site is using (or guess accurately) and it will actually understand the parameters. With Google's resources its...

Re: Template Cache better in memory?

Doh. I already wrote my own memcache acm plugin. ;)
Probably should have searched Area 51 and not just phpBB.com

I'll give memory template caching a shot and see how well it works.
Our main web server has plenty of memory so it should be pretty interesting.

Template Cache better in memory?

I work for a forum host and with phpBB 3 caching templates on disk, I'm wondering if it would be better to put them in Memcached? I'm already using Memcached for SQL caching and everything else. For a single forum using the disk is fine because the server's disk cache would keep it in ram pretty muc...

Re: [BETA] Virtual Neighborhood (A User Map)

Seamonkey itself IS an extension to firefox. I think you mean scripts in Seamonkey. Since Seamonkey is an extension to firefox that allows you to run your own scripts on pages you specify, and code you specify. Uhh no it isnt. Firefox and Seamonkey both came from the Mozilla Suite (which came from ...

Memcached based caching

A Memcached acm module would be nice for the bigger forums.

It wouldnt be too difficult. I'd do it myself if I had more time and/or was more familiar with Memcached.

Lets see how fast phpBB 3 can go. :)

Kills the browser if you put too many on but there isnt a limit. ;)
