Re: 3.27 to 3.2.8 successful, couple of funnies though

sounds like the rules extension needed updating with the new phpbb version. did you check all the other extensions to see if they have updated versions available? if so, you should go ahead and update them now. robert I did a version check of them before upgrading and the ACP showed them to be all ...

Re: 3.2.8 User not moving out of Newly Registered group

A user will only move out of the NRG when they next access the board after the post has been approved. So if a member posts and then it is subsequently approved but they never return to the board then they will never move out of the group unless you do it manually. Ahhhhh...that makes sense now Dav...

3.2.8 User not moving out of Newly Registered group

Running v3.2.8 I have First Approval set so that myself or the Moderators have to approve everyones first post. That is working okay. I also have Set Newly Registered Users group to default: Yes New member post limit: 1 So I believe that once the user hits a post count of 1, they move from Newly Reg...

3.2.7 to 3.2.8 successful, couple of funnies though

Upgraded from 3.2.7 to 3.2.8. Used the normal Full Package option and followed the instructions here, everything went fine, files copied over and the database updater said it was 100%. I then deleted the install folder, logged in and went to the ACP. It said that the upgrade was incomplete and said ...

Re: Russian dating site spammers

The bots vary from time to time. You do sometimes get waves of the same kind or the same site url. By default the newly reg'd users group permission doesn't have the ability to send PMs for that kind of reason. It's set to NEVER. Thanks. Certainly all the PM's that had been sent were identical from...

Off-topic, but since you are neither in the USA, nor does your board target people under 13, why do you have COPPA enabled?
I have no idea other than its been that way since I started the site!
However I've now disabled it for the reason you mentioned.

Russian dating site spammers

Anyone else getting hit by Russian IPs who join the site don’t post a message by send PMs with links to dating sites? Had about 15 registered in 5 minutes. Made a new security question. Now don’t allow newly registered members to access PMs. Had already set up that first posts need approved. I guess...

Approving first post of new user

Touch wood that I don't jinx anything....... Having spent many years reading about people suggesting to put the process in place to approve the first post of every newly registered user, I can now admit that I should have done it years ago. If you are getting hit by spam and the users are reporting ...

Re: 3.2.x and nginx

Would using nginx speed up the posting of topics? Does it have any affect on database read/write speed? No, the same way Apache doesn't have any direct effect on database. Thanks, my forum is fast everywhere, except in posting and replying. I thought that nginx may speed things up, but it sounds as...

My server has nginx, but its not enabled. I;'m aware that when signalling/upgrading phpbb, nginx may need to be configured. ... I'm not sure I understand what you're asking or implying. The phrase I boldfaced insinuates that nginx may become a necessary prerequisite for phpBB. Also: what is "signal...

3.2.x and nginx

My server has nginx, but its not enabled. I;'m aware that when signalling/upgrading phpbb, nginx may need to be configured. Couple of questions: Would using nginx speed up the posting of topics? Does it have any affect on database read/write speed? Secondly, does the configuration need to be complet...

3.2.7 Slow to post

Running v3.2.7 on a large board with a 2.6Gb database. Site loads fine, you can reading and navigate everywhere just fine. PMs are okay. But, when it comes to posting a reply to a topic it can sometimes take up to 20-30 seconds to perform that action. Anyone any ideas where or how I look into why? A...

Re: Getting too much visitors which are looking like spam

Same happened to my site with the similar type IP addresses. I tried adding them with phpbb as a banned IP address and that kept them off the site however they were still hammering the server. I ended up adding the IP ranges to the .htaccess file. And that has now brought everything back to normal. ...

Re: Issue going from 3.2.2 to 3.2.3

Just for closure on this.
I uninstalled the subsilver2 remnants from my production board.
Copied over the changed files.
Ran the database updater.
Production site is running v3.2.3 now.

thanks
