Re: Why not push phpb3 in a direction of CMS

Would be an idea to integrate such a feature but it would add extra bloat and workload on top of releases so it would be better as an extension. phpBB should in itself should remain a message board software. ^_^ What I meant by common bridge was one co-developed by the various projects. There has b...

Re: New to this, and confused about one thing

Regarding question 2 you could install a typical CMS like WordPress or Joomla to have a frontpage on your host and then install phpBB in a subfolder like /forums.

phpBB is for people who own a server or pay for site hosting, and want to maintain the forum themselves, in regards to question 3.

Re: Are Facebook, VK and other social nets killing your forums?

Fun fact: there is an 'anti-social network' called Twatter.
I agree that social media spams your emails even if you opt out or delete account.

Re: Are Facebook, VK and other social nets killing your forums?

Off-topic forums and general discussion centred forums mainly only work if it's started by an already established userbase and can gain quick traction these days. Off-topic forums are good for getting to know people though and to chill. ^^ BBS=Bulletin Board System (I think). Just another term for f...

Re: What's the best way to donate to the phpbb team?

If you know PHP, contributing to the software is probably considered as donating in a way. ^_^

I'd be happy with common bridge to Drupal and other CMS's.

Re: Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Just wanna say that I'm hoping my forum's users go for phpBB as the software we move to from some antiquated software - 3.2.x is one great software and best of all it's FOSS, so it's made by people for people.

Thanks <3

Edit - phpBB was tied with MyBB and I chose the former :)

Re: Options for setting up high security

Disabling emails would be a bad idea as it means users cannot reset their password unless you were to make it an optional field. I haven't tinkered with phpBB yet but there might be a way to disable by default board notifications via email, if the problem is that your users don't like their primary ...

Re: Are Facebook, VK and other social nets killing your forums?

@hewmac06: That... is too true. Regarding this subject, while forums and IRC are definitely dying down from less experienced users on the Internet as compared to Facebook or Discord, forums are definitely better for those who want to preserve their discussions, get proper support and take part in th...

Re: PHP Extensions needed for phpBB 3.2?

Thanks for the information and quick, helpful reply. ^^

I'll assume the default PHP/MySQL configuration files will work for a small community.

Re: Why not push phpb3 in a direction of CMS

phpBB is simple so that it is fast and not bloated. I personally dislike these forum software that put too much emphasis on flashy effects and such, forums weren't intended for that sort of design. XenForo and IPS for instance put way too much emphasis on this: this affects severely people on limite...

[Solved] PHP Extensions needed for phpBB 3.2?

Hi,

I'm going to do a fresh server upgrade to Ubuntu 16.04 LTS soon and will be likely using phpBB. I have a question that isn't in the knowledge base - what PHP specific configuration and extensions are needed for phpBB to run?

Thanks!
