Re: Image orientation in plupload, using EXIF

Any new ideas to solve this :?: The image rotation based on EXIF is performed by plupload. This only happens when you set maximum image dimensions which then forces plupload to reduce the image size. In your settings, maximum image size is 0 x 0 so plupload is not engaged. Change the maximum image ...

Re: Total Page Views, Site Visits, etc.?

What you want is Google Analytics. There is an excellent official phpBB extension for it: https://www.phpbb.com/customise/db/extension/googleanalytics/ Once setup, you can then monitor via the Google Analytics web console or Android/iOS app. It is very powerful with customised reports, graphs, etc. ...

Re: Show attached pdf file in new browser tab

I imagine this is possible. There is already an extension for opening external links in a new window. This might be modified so that attachment links are opened in a new window/tab. If the browser was configured to open the file natively (through a PDF plugin for instance), then it would then open w...

Re: Why forum over Facebook?

I've heard of issues with phpBB no honoring rotation tags. Is that not the case or are you using an extension? It works with the new version of plupload (which is shipped with the latest version of phpBB). It require a very minor code change. See here: https://www.phpbb.com/community/viewtopic.php?...

Re: Attempt Resolving Dead Image Links Using WayBackMachine

Moreover, on my forum, users agreed to terms of use which granted an express irrevocable licence for me to use of photos they posted or hyperlinked on the forum. If they don't own the IP, then they grant me an indemnity for any loss suffered through reproduction of that image on the forum. So there...

Re: Why forum over Facebook?

Facebook serves posts to people's feeds based on who Facebook want to see posts according to their algorithm, not what the users want to see (which in turn is based on maximising profit from their own advertising platform). If you navigate to a Facebook group, posts are arranged according to algorit...

Re: Criticism of feature or EXT requests

The OP makes a very valid observation and I had the exact same reaction. I understand responses that point out why a particular feature or extension might be difficult to implement or require a significant amount of work, but that's not the kind of criticism I frequently see on this board. The criti...

Re: Attempt Resolving Dead Image Links Using WayBackMachine

I have done the same thing on my board, manually finding and replacing images with cached versions from the Wayback Machine. Wayback actually has its own API. I put a call out on v12mike's thread about potentially linking the Wayback API to the Fetch Images the extension. This would essentially add ...

Re: resize images (optional)

If you specify a reasonably large image size limit, one that conforms to PC displays, then it will display full size and then automatically reduce on mobile responsive themes. Simply by imposing this large limit, it will drastically reduce the image file size and thereby improve load times, without ...

Re: Images Hijacked by Photobucket?

Photobucket announced a while back that it is no disabling direct hyperlinking of images, meaning browser fixes were no longer required. However, quite recently they have started placing large watermarks on images saying "hosted by photobucket". When using one of the browser extensions to fix the au...

Re: [3.2][RC] Site Logo

Is it normal to have a lag? I first see the default logo, then my logo loads. Any way to avoid this? Thanks The lag is normal, as the way this extension works is to replace the default logo with your chosen logo every time a page loads. The way to overcome is this is to replace the default logo fil...

Re: Image orientation in plupload, using EXIF

Well I just managed to fix it! I implemented this change to /phpbb/plupload/plupload.php (around line 269): From 'resize: {width: %d, height: %d, quality: 85},', to 'resize: {width: %d, height: %d, quality: 85,preserve_headers: false},', Previously this edit did nothing for me. Now, with the new ver...

Re: [3.2][ALPHA] EXIR - Exif Image Rotation

As noted in the other thread, the update to plupload v.2.3.6 didn't resolve image rotation for me. In the ACP, I have thumbnails turned off and max image dimensions to 1440x900. With the previous version of plupload that ships with phpBB (v.2.3.3), attachments wouldn't rotate and EXIF would be strip...

Re: Image orientation in plupload, using EXIF

But, the attachments don't render in post with the correct orientation. However, if you open the direct URL of the uploaded image in a new tab it is correctly oriented. The means the EXIF data is just being retained and properly interpreted by the browser, but not phpBB. Plupload only handles the f...
