Thanks Janus, I will try that once I get the chance to move.

Re: host moved site to new server, need to reconnect and update

I was able to change php versions through cPanel, looks like everything is back up! I really appreciate your help. I think the next step will be to duplicate the database and forum, then apply updates to phpbb. Similar to what's been laid out here: https://www.phpbb.com/community/viewtopic.php?f=661...

Re: host moved site to new server, need to reconnect and update

Hi, Robert thanks for the informative reply! The new site is running php version 7.2.28, the previous one appears to be 5.4.45. I guess you nailed it right away. Any options moving forward here? As for the config file, thanks for the clarification. All the info should be identical, but I guess it's ...

host moved site to new server, need to reconnect and update

Hi, so my site had bandwidth usage issues and my host suggested they transfer it to their parent company. So the url and forum was inaccessible, then moved to a new account. I believe it was running 3.0.9 mainly because there were significant design changes to the styles which made upgrading a huge ...

Queue moderator creation

Hey guys,

Is it a good idea or possible to make members of a group queue moderators? I've had some trouble setting up and removing queue moderator status for individual members. The setup is a little confusing but am wondering if this is a good approach to easily add and replace queue mods.

Thanks

editing "functions_display.php", removing "FORUM_NAME"

I'd like to tweak the nav breadcrumb, so it doesn't show the first category name. Removing (or commenting out) line 576 ( 'FORUM_NAME' => $parent_name, ) on the "functions_display.php seems to do the trick. Is this the correct way or is there a better way? Could this cause unforeseen problems.....

Re: Newly registered users conversion from phpbb2 prob

How are you testing if it is working? Is this only users registered since your conversion, or on users already registered on your old board before the conversion? Hi, it's both. New users (with zero posts) who signed up before the conversion and new users after the conversion can post without moder...

Newly registered users conversion from phpbb2 prob

Hi everyone, So I finally moved my forum to phpBB3 and the conversion went very well. However, one of the main features I was interested does not seem to work. Newly registered users can post immediately. So I guess some of the settings were not turned on? Since I'm not 100% sure about what's going ...

Re: Database Size weirdness and listed as "Not available"

Gotcha. I just finished reimporting the DB to my previous host. I'm not sure if this makes sense... For the same amount of records (144,314) from the same dump file, the total size of an example table is: Original DB (Host 1) = 47.1 MiB Import DB (Host 1) = 47.5 MiB Import DB (Host 2) = 47.7 MiB For...

Re: Database Size weirdness and listed as "Not available"

I've done it as a precaution in preparation for transferring to a new host -- just to make sure the DB is in good shape before I make a backup. I'm testing reimporting a dump file with the previous host to see if it will inflate too. If it does, then I would at least know it's occurring during backu...

Re: Database Size weirdness and listed as "Not available"

Thanks. I do run a repair then optimize prior to backup. And the new DB is the one that is the greater size. Does that make sense? I'll skip the search tables, they definitely slow things down. Thanks again! edit: This is a screen snap of the options I picked (I think the one in the article is a bit...

Re: Database Size weirdness and listed as "Not available"

Hi Espicom. I did read that article (several times) and am aware of the rebuild search script. So far, the file transfer has been OK (after much earlier confusion). I'll consider skipping those tables. Even if bigdump is able to process the entire SQL dump file, do you think the search tables should...

Database Size weirdness and listed as "Not available"

Hi -- I'm transferring to a different host (I'm using phpmyadmin and bigdump to move my DB) but have a few weird results. The total size gains about 25mb according to phpmyadmin (from 125 to 150mb). And when I log-in into the admin panel, the database size is listed as "Not available"... t...

Re: phpbb_db_backup re-import probs, xtra return breaks& bigdump

Alright, was able to restore with bigdump, I just had to remove the entries for "phpbb_search_wordlist". I uploaded a separate file "phpbb_search_wordlist" entries and used " REPLACE INTO phpbb_search_wordlist" But there are a few glitches: 1 - According to myphpadmin, ...

phpbb_db_backup re-import probs, xtra return breaks

Hi... I'm in the midst of moving to new host. The backup file was created by phpBB. The phpbb_search_wordlist table freezes the import via bigdump. It appears certain characters break the dump (curly quotes, euro currency symbols, etc). I can restore my DB (about 125mb -- roughly a 380mb full backup...
