Re: When will phpBB work with PHP8?

Uh oh. I tried installing 3.3.4, so if it's working with PHP8 for everyone else, then there must be something wrong with my configuration because I'm getting the following error: Fatal error: Uncaught Error: Call to undefined function token_get_all() in /var/www/html/phpBB3/vendor/zendframework/zend...

When will phpBB work with PHP8?

I tried installing phpBB on a server that's running PHP8 and I ran into a whole lot of problems, and then I saw other forum posts about phpBB not working with PHP8. Is this still the case, and if so, do we have any idea how long it might take for PHP8 support to materialize?

3.2 has more trouble with bots than 3.1?

Ever since upgrading to 3.2, I'm finding that Google and Bing bots can bring down my forum with "Too many connections [1040]" MySQLi errors. I don't know why it's worse with 3.2 than it was before. Maybe it's because I wasn't using the MySQLi extension before? I dunno. But my forum is goin...

Re: How to block an IP?

Well, I was talking about modifying the .htaccess file that comes with phpbb. When I put the same thing into a blank file, it works fine, but when I try to stick it into the .htaccess file that comes with phpbb, it causes a server config error.

How to block an IP?

I can't figure out how to block an IP address in Apache. I'm getting some kind of DOS attack from one IP address. The .htaccess file that comes with phpbb has a bunch of directives, and when I add the following code to it, I get a server config error: <Directory "/var/www/html"> Require al...

Oh wait, I get it: some of the tables are InnoDB for some reason.

Re: Tried to change DB name, software still looks for old name

Thanks for the tip. Unfortunately, after clearing the cache, now it says: General Error SQL ERROR [ mysql4 ] Table 'testbed.phpbb_ext' doesn't exist in engine [1932] An sql error occurred while fetching this page. Please contact an administrator if this problem persists. Does mysqlhotcopy not work a...

Tried to change DB name, software still looks for old name

Hi, I tried copying my forum to a different server and changing the database name from the default "phpbb3" to something else. I changed the DB name in MySQL, and I changed it in config.php. But when I try to browse the board, it says: General Error SQL ERROR [ mysql4 ] Unknown database 'p...

Re: first there was dark matter, then there was dark energy

I was always taught just the opposite, that gravity was a strong force that controlled the movements of pretty much everything in the universe. It is why the moon orbits the Earth, why the planets revolve around the sun, and pretty much controls the movements of every celestial body. Even the stars...

Re: should Girl Guides pledge devotion to God?

I wonder if "noth" doesn't have particularly sound reasoning for his position, hence the reluctance to state this reasoning (or even the position). In any case, if Girl Guides want to be a religious organization, they should be shorn of any public assistance, government money, use of gover...

Re: Facebook security "new measures"

I always find it amusing that people are so free with things like birthdays and employers on Facebook, when birthdays and employment history are two of the questions that banks will ask to confirm your identity.

Re: first there was dark matter, then there was dark energy

I wish they wouldn't resort to such absurdly over-the-top headlines in order to grab peoples' attention. Even if turned out that such "dark flows" exist, it wouldn't mean that everything we know about the universe is wrong. It would just mean that there's a new phenomenon out there which w...

Re: Occupy Wallstreet

and there you have the absolute, uncompromising difference between liberals and conservatives. both sides can provide all the theories in the world to "prove" their case but never, ever convince the other side they are wrong. sounds sort of like a conversation about religion doesn't it? :...
