Re: Question about backup

and/or it is just a difference in how the database backup is constructed. in other words, is is data only or data and structure etc. does it have only inserts or does it contain both values and inserts etc. etc. bottom line is, when you make a backup it is always a good idea to check it to see if al...

Re: Question about backup

no, that backup in the admin panel is just for the database. the extensions, images, etc. are all in the files which are in a completely different place on the server. to back them up, you do a backup of all the files using ftp. then, in order to completely recover back to the beginning, you would h...

Re: Help needed please

the problem with filezilla is that it will transfer files with no extension in ascii. the attachments in the folder named "files" have no extension ( .jpg etc. ) therefore, if you leave the default settings about how to transfer files then all of those images will get corrupted when you ftp them bac...

Re: PayPal Donate Button on Profile Field

pretty easy really. you install the extension. you go to your admin panel and create a new custom profile field. use text area for the type. make sure it at least shows in the topic page. then, once it is created. go back and edit it. put in your paypal link in the text area. submit. done. oh , you ...

Re: Help needed please

and don't believe any of that nonsense about having to take down your website and start over. upgrading your phpbb is very simple as long as you have a good ftp program and know how to use it to upload files to your website server. you read and follow those instructions posted above . do them exactl...

Re: Bad and good bots/robots

bottom line is that if you have your registration spam counter measures setup correctly there is no problem with the so called "bad bots" accessing your server. they can't register so they are not causing you any problems.

setup a good Q&A for registration and forget about it.

Re: PayPal Donate Button on Profile Field

https://www.phpbb.com/customise/db/extension/bbcode_enabled_profile_fields/ this works although, in my opinion, it should provide a standard paypal image instead of allowing users to provide their own. you have to first create your cpf using type: textarea then you select to parse bbcode and urls. g...

Re: Show Sub-forums in Categories

your question doesn't make sense, both of those options are the same.

you can't have subforums in categories . you have categories, you have forums under categories then you can have all the sub forums, sub sub forums etc. that you want under a forum that is under a category.

Re: Show Sub-forums in Categories

that is because you can't have a subforum in a category. categories have forums, then forums can have subforums.
also, a category does not even show up unless it first has a forum inside it.

Re: Some very noob questions

the operating system has nothing to do with it really. you can install mysql and php etc. etc. on just about any operating system, even windows. if you are goint to get hosting that you pay for, get a linux hosting package as opposed to windows hosting. whatever os package the server is running on i...

Re: Email error » EMAIL/SMTP (want to use Email delivery service)

none of that has anything to do with phpbb. phpbb provides two different ways to use email. both of those ways depend on your host's server setup . contact your host. most likely the problem is going to be that your host does not allow you to relay email through there smtp servers etc. what that mea...

Re: hosting question

I would forget the cloud stuff. just find a decent hosting plan. most basic hosting offers plenty of resources for most phpbb installations. https://webhostingtalk.com is a good place to look. unless you have a very large and very busy board ( as in thousands of members and thousands of posts a day,...
