Re: Phpbb3 + Drupal + Varnish cache

I'm currently in the process of setting up Varnish for Drupal. When Varnish is running it's of course a small step to also use this for phpBB guests. The workaround that you are using is nice but you would need more modifications than this. By default phpBB explicitly tells clients and proxies not t...

Re: [3.0.x] Tweaks for large forums

eval() should die :+ Another problem is that preg_replace with the /e modifier is not supported. This is used at quite a few locations in the phpBB code (i.e. for smiley substitution). But HipHop looks pretty impressive, 50% speed improvement over PHP with APC. Looks like there is going to be a rele...

Re: Clustering / MultiServer PHPBB

What dowelld says :) I'm currently using phpBB with one DB server (no automatic failover there yet, clustering isn't necessary because phpBB isn't that heavy on the DB), two webservers and one NFS/image server. Currently using rsync to keep the PHP scripts in sync between servers, haven't been able ...

Re: [DEV] Topic title instead of forum link

We could but that would be really detrimental for performance... With this mod phpBB only need to lookup the relevant titles once. If you do this within the bbcode parser each link needs DB lookups on every view of that message. If you want this in all your messages you would be better of writing a ...

Re: [DEV] Topic title instead of forum link

None that I can think of except for performance with posts that contain huge amounts of links. This code has been running for more than a year on an older version of phpBB 3, hasn't been extensively tested the current 3.0 code but AFAIK there are no problems.

Re: [DEV] Topic title instead of forum link

Only internal, ofcourse it's possible to just fetch the <title> of remote URLs but that would be too slow and would have quite a bit more security implications. Oh, forgot to mention that all forums on my board are named something like: [AN] Annoucements i.e. every forum is prefixed by an abbreviati...

[ABD] Topic title instead of forum link

First of all; I don't plan on actively maintaining or supporting this mod :) If someone wants to adopt it: by all means! This fairly trivial patch changes URLs like: http://www.phpbb.com/community/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=925555 into something like: Announcements - Londonvasion Registration Now Open! It...

Those files aren't included (or needed). I just haven't updated the .xml file :)

So now all you need to do is copy/paste my code into your mod and update the admin page and language files :P

Re: [BETA] BartVB SiteMap Generator

I'm hoping that someone (Joshua2100 perhaps?) will adopt my changes in his mod. Again; I have no intention of forking Joshua's mod, the changes have been posted posted only to improve on his work.

Re: [BETA] SiteMap Generator

It doesn't hurt to have an index file, Google (and the other search engines) know perfectly well how to handle them :) But I can see your point for a small forum although small forums can get big :) Took a quick look and my board had over 50k topics after 16 months and the site wasn't exactly huge a...

Re: [BETA] SiteMap Generator

This is the query: $sql = 'SELECT * FROM ' . USERS_TABLE . ' WHERE user_id = ' . intval($config['sitemap_bot_user']); So apparently in your case $config['sitemap_bot_user'] is empty... A quick (and really dirty :P) fix is replacing that code with: $sql = 'SELECT * FROM ' . USERS_TABLE . ' WHERE user...

Re: [BETA] SiteMap Generator

Clear your cache :) phpBB caches most config variables. If you use the default file cache there should be a file like 'global_vars.php' or something like that in /forums/cache/ delete that file to get rid of the cached config values.

Re: [BETA] SiteMap Generator

My version is not really ready for casual use, it needs some manual nurturing :) I guess 'improved error handling' needs to be on the TODO list too :D Most important is that you create a 'sitemap_bot_user' value in the config table that contains the ID of the bot user that you want to use the permis...

Re: [BETA] SiteMap Generator

If you ever get to do your TODO please let us know the results. As I said; it's not a TODO list I plan to finish. It's not even my todo list, I don't need the items on that list. I don't use the admin page, don't use the stats, already have automated generation of the sitemaps. So if you want to se...
