Re: "Mail" subdomain attached to my phpbb forum and showing hidden topics! WTF?!

It's agreed that existence of the "mail" sub-domain, and the fact that this DNS entry is pointing to the same IP address as your web server, is normal and expected. The mail service "could" have been on a different server, but the fact that it too is hosted on the same server is not unusual. So this...

Re: Site Favicon Missing In Google Search Results

Great, at lest now you know Google has picked up the icon in whatever manner they use specifically for the search results. I noticed at least in my desktop browsers that Google appears to have rolled out this new results format to the desktop environments now too, in addition to mobile. Of maybe I'm...

Re: Users getting logged out randomly

The IP may have some effect anyway. I noticed that after one logout, while the chat reported an IPv6 address, the "Who is online" displayed an IPv4 address. for the user. I can't think of a reason why that would happen, the user uses only a single device and after the next login, the forum also dis...

Re: The Coronavirus Topic

I have heard that the wearing of masks is more of a "symbol" than any actual benefit to the wearer. Kinda like a "Social Prophylactic" That they are meant to protect the other person etc etc.. Not sure why those two things are listed "as though they're the same." That's "symbolic" versus "an actual...

Re: Incorrect email address for an Admin

Agreed on "this notification goes out based on a search of the admin user accounts", and not the board contact info, and searching for that email address among the users seems like what should reveal the culprit. But some additional details, if it helps in any way for the search of the "offending" m...

I don't have affiliation to any one of them -- nor do I use any of them -- but many of the items in this list are what I think of when you say "modern and responsive." Several also supply a configuration UI to make background and logo replacement easier.

Re: The installer detected a timeout - Fresh Install

Also check specifically the PHP error log; as opposed to the web server error log, web server access log, or any phpBB-specific logs. "Detected a timeout" is actually just a catch-all error during installation. Any PHP execution error for any reason can be reported as "detected a timeout." So when y...

Re: Users getting logged out randomly

No, there isn't any optional logging already wrapped around the session matching or creation decisions. To have something like that, we'd just need to custom create some logging code in the session handling. "Everyone has the same IP address" is just one of those things that could have explained why...

Re: Attachments settings in the ACP

For a symptom like "FULL_EDITOR is showing some other string that what I've set in my language pack", I would also search your entire phpBB site folders (or at least /ext, in addition to /language) for anyone who might be (re)defining that string. Not that they're "intentionally" doing it, necessari...

Re: Users getting logged out randomly

I don't believe chat access is the cause of the problem, as I got reports of this happening from users who don't use the chat. It's probably less noticeable and annoying. I personally don't care too much about the chat login working, on the long term, the Chat will probably be replaced anyway. It's...

Re: Users getting logged out randomly

I wasn't able to duplicate any behavior like "the server unexpectedly assigned me a new session" that might have correlated to the symptom you're chasing, for what it's worth. Just hitting the site as guest, without being actually logged on. If you wanted to give a test account with limited access t...

Re: From root to forum directory

Modifying the database is certainly one solution. What comes to mind for me is using an .htaccess rule. Which will handle not only redirecting links that users had cut-n-pasted into messages within phpBB itself, but also happens to handle any users who have bookmarks using the old URL, or other site...

Re: problems with using gmail smtp on phpbb

did it all, solved almost everything That error message shows that you're now using port 465 instead of port 587. If your server name is still simply "smtp.gmail.com", then this error is expected for trying to use port 465. Put it back to port 587 and then you'll be able to see whether or not the SM...

did the allow less secure apps to access your account. still get nothing And, continue....? Google has a whole list of things there, specifically for the case of "if that still doesn't resolve the issue." As stated before, even once you get the Gmail account correctly configured, the number of fail...

Re: problems with using gmail smtp on phpbb

Calling it a "password app" sounds like the wrong interpretation. Google is saying you might want to create an "App Password" if you are using multi-factor authentication for your GMail account. "App Password" being a Google-provided feature within your GMail account, for allowing an application whi...
