Re: Minimise forum spam

one advantage of Q&A challenge vs google's captcha is that a smart Q&A is much more effective in deterring human spammers

Re: User activation emails not getting to hotmail accounts?

yes definitely test your emails using https://www.mail-tester.com/ what I found being useful in lowering spam score is modifying your activation email so that it is unique - write a short welcome message linked to your board it is as easy as editing a plain text file in: \language\en\email\user_welc...

Re: Auto Logout Hell

Besides phpBB, if you create something that takes much work, it's good habit to keep a local copy of it... For example, if you see that your post is getting long, create a local file in a word processor of your choice and copy all the contents there, save it. I you prefer to continue the work in you...

Will you or your board benefit if a user registers but never posts anything?

Re: Subscribing to a forum sends topic reply notification

Thanks, I'm happy to hear that this bug will be fixed in next release

BTW I checked that setting 'user_notify' => 1 in functions_user.php was not the cause, but I guess this is now obvious anyway :)

Re: Subscribing to a forum sends topic reply notification

OK thanks, I will file a bug report, but first I need to test whether my modification to functions_user.php ('user_notify' => 1) had any impact
I will post back

Re: Subscribing to a forum sends topic reply notification

But it makes no sense in my opinion. In my example, I'm not subscribed to topic Y, I'm subscribed to forum X only, so receiving one notification (new topic notification) would be enough (that is until I actually subscribe to topic Y)

Re: Subscribing to a forum sends topic reply notification

I think we're still not clear about the behaviour that I'm talking about. step by step: 1. I subscribe to a forum X 2. A new topic Y is posted on the forum X 3. I receive 'new topic notification' about new topic Y 4. I do not open topic Y, I don't do anything with topic Y 5. Someone else replies to ...

Re: Subscribing to a forum sends topic reply notification

Update: I've just observed this behaviour here on phpBB.com as well. After posting this topic, I subscribed to 3.3.x support forum and I've just received a topic reply notification on the topic "H E L P! Unable to enter forum" even though I have never even opened that topic, not to mention...

If you are subscribed to topic with 3.3.1
The thing is that I'm *not* subscribed to a topic, I'm subscribed to a forum only. As per Mick's suggestion, I started a new topic in the support forum, so let's continue there ok?

Subscribing to a forum sends topic reply notification

Hi, as per Mick's suggestion, I'm starting a support forum topic that is a follow-up of this topic . To sum it up: when I subscribe to a forum, I receive two e-mails for each new topic in this forum: first one arrives when a new topic is published (makes sense!), but then I receive another email whe...

Re: Does it make sense to receive two e-mails for each new topic?

Hi, I upgraded to 3.3.1 but the issue has not been solved, i.e. when I'm subscribed to a forum, I still get a topic reply notification even if I'm not subscribed to a topic

the tracker says it has been fixed...
https://tracker.phpbb.com/browse/PHPBB3-14754

did anyone test it?
