phpBB2 is not very "friendly", as a portal/CMS backend for users and groups handling, since it's old school with no generic OO design. With Olympus this has changed (somewhat), and portal/cms coders have tons of resuable code to hook up with their own standalone apps. My point is there is no need to...

Thanks Paul. Not only phpBB itself, but also all 3rd party MODs and phpBB groupie projects (eg my own, mxBB Portal) salute all your spent time and shared talent. Thanks!

He's using SAJAX, or at least a derived version.

JPSpan seems more feature complete, but Sajax has a great user community (but hte author himself has vanished)

true true, my point is several native phpBB functions (used all over in main code and MODs) could be turned Ajax, without modifying every single tpl file out there...

I agree with drathbun, a standard ajax class would be awesome edit: I think I'll start using JPSpan in my webapps insted of sajax, seems like ti can do more stuff not so sure anymore, from reading announcements and progress reports over in the SAJAX user forums http://www.modernmethod.com/sajax/for...

why store it all in the db anyway, since this info is only of interest for individual users a cookie (or a _SESSION is cookies are disabled) should be enough

or do you want to do some fancy stats with all this info?

modding the native posting will not be done quickly, that's why there are several alternative MODS out there for more customized "posts". for example: - knowledge base MOD (with plain phpBB posts comments) - linkdb MOD both features custom fields, ratings, and comments there are other mods as well...
