Re: Error scanning for proxies message

that might be something your host does. have you installed any MOD's that deal with proxies? a vanilla copy of phpbb doesn't have that error message Ah, that's interesting. My co-admin was a little mod happy and we have a few installed. I tried to move the data base to a clean vanilla board but the...

Re: Help about IP's

I'm pretty sure you could use the unix wild card asterisk character like this. 203.*.*.* I'd be care before banning entire blocks that way because you could end up blocking vast numbers of people, even people you like. You can also look into installing an .htaccess file in you root directory to filt...

Error scanning for proxies message

I get a message saying, "Error scanning for proxies" whenever I try to log in at home or at work. I am behind a router in both places and so I bypassed the router and plugged directly into the modem and was able to log in at home but this is something new and I didn't change any settings prior to th...

I just checked my board again and a few minutes ago the same thing happened only this time with a Great Brittan IP address. I just banned email from test.com using the wild card filter "*@test.com" and, hopefully, that will work. It is nonetheless peculiar, though. I guess I will have to wait and se...

test@test.com email crack

I started this topic in another thread, which, unfortunately, veered off topic and got locked so as not to become another spam bot thread, however, I looked into it a little further and there's seems to be a specific anomaly, which, might allow someone to register with a fictitious email address "te...

email confirmation cracked

I have a few spammers register on my forum every day and I've been manually deleting them. This one is interesting because it appears he some how cracked the email registration tool. Is that possible? The email address used is obviously fake: test@test.com All about Test Joined: 11 Jan 2007 Total po...

Thanks! I also noticed there's a spambot thread on page two. I think between this tweak and a spambot mod or two that ought to fix it. :)

need to remove website field from profile page getting spam

I need to remove the website field option from the veiw profile page. I'm getting relentlessly spammed, presumably by spammers trying to google bomb their sites. I get at least one spammer every day registering and posting links in their profile to spam websites. Can anyone steer me in the right dir...

Interestingly enough I surfed over here because I've noticed suspicous activity on my board and was looking for some input. When I looked at your board I noticed the newest member is "kim wong" who, as it happens, is also the newest member on my board as well. http://www.alfrankensense.com/forum/ (...

I am curious to know why someone would post that kind of code string in an open forum. I assume there is a reason for it but whatever that reason is I haven't been able to figure it out. Maybe to check then later if Google and other search engines index the posts on your forum. If you do a search o...

I can add to the kim wong theory. Regsitered at our board, then we got hacked within 24 hours. Very interesting, indeed. Does anyone have any idea what this is all about? Why would someone post this in a forum? Post subject: xj6knay0 n1i345ap81pq5j2d5f5g4r Make sure you check all your files and del...

I had version 2.0.19, but then I'm not sure he was successful at whatever it is he's up to. When spammer's register we immediately remove the link in their profile and change their password and email address so that it notifies the admin if they try to log on. We record their IP and if they come bac...

Interesting. I found these two related links. <snip> The full text of dbase.txt is printed below. Sure enough, this script makes the process appear to be running from /usr/local/apache/smb. Cute!
