Rebuilding search index

Deleted the search index (full text native) and tried to get the software to rebuild it but because of the size of the board it keeps timing out.

Can I use bigdump to populate the tables from a previous backup? What table names do I need?

Any help much appreciated.

Re: Mark topic read for all users

If I were to code similar for the forum, would that not mean though that the forum (and all of their topics) will be marked as read for every user, even if there are still unread posts in it for a particular user or users?

Re: Mark topic read for all users

Thanks for your help so far. The topic is indeed marked as read for all users, however it is still showing as the forum having a new topic on the index page. Only when you click the respective forumm and then go back to the index page, does the new post icon on the index page disappear. This is the ...

Re: Mark topic read for all users

Hi, We use a "marker post" to identify to where the forum has been read by a Moderator. A moderator will bump this marker post thus it becoming an unread post which is inconvenient to the non moderators as they think a new post has been made in the forum, when there hasn't. The DB backed i...

Just delete all the files in the "cache" directory.

Re: Update 3.0.4 to 3.0.5 problem

I let it run for a couple of minutes. The page didn't time out, it was just filling with dots.

Re: Update 3.0.4 to 3.0.5 problem

The site is back to its normal speed after a couple of reboots of the server.

Very reluctant upgrading now from 3.0.4 to 3.0.5 given the previous problems.

Any thoughts on why the database update was not progressing?

Re: Update 3.0.4 to 3.0.5 problem

That did the trick as far as that the error message disappeared. No luck with the update of the database though. The database size is 1279.75 MiB and the database update just hangs. Dots keep filling the screen and nothing appears to be happening. I stopped the update and the forums are very very sl...

Re: Update 3.0.4 to 3.0.5 problem

Did a search (perhaps should have done it earlier) and came across this article: http://www.phpbb.com/kb/article/doesnt-have-a-default-value-errors/ Applied the 3.0.4 patch and a set of SQL commands where provided which I ran in phpMyAdmin only for the following error message to be displayed: Error ...

Unusual error message

Never came across this one. On a board I am a moderator of, a Mod was trying to merge a topic and after the confirmation to confirm the merge was accepted, an error message was displayed with the words "database" and "integrity" in it. Unfortunately, the whole message wasn't read...

Re: Revision 9782 remove password from email templates

Yes, I am now more confused than ever. From the replies it does indeed appear that they user's password need protecting rather than the user's account just in case a phpBB original password is the same as their banking/email/<insert any webapplication> password. If a user choses to ignore the wide k...

Re: Revision 9782 remove password from email templates

It is optional: when you go to update your board, just skip over this change. Not quite. It should be optional for the user to decide to receive their password with their welcome email or not. Similar that it is up to the user to decide whether to choose a weak or strong password. As for skipping o...

Re: Revision 9782 remove password from email templates

If you don't want your password being sent via email, then it shouldn't be sent via email And if you do? Then why not make it a check box on registration (by default unchecked) that if the box is checked a password is send to the registered email address. I honestly can't believe that we have to de...
