Re: Automatically block Russian posts

Yeah, I'm not saying it's only Russians who spam. In fact, it's only been in the past 2-3 months that I've even seen Russian spam on the forums. But this type of protection would work for any language and most types of spam. Fill in a list of letters, words, or phrases and if those appear in the pos...

Re: Automatically block Russian posts

I suppose that depends on the forum's subject matter and the spammer's intelligence. :) Well, if you guys think it's a pointless thing to do, then that's fine. I can continue to deal with spammers manually and eventually make enough time to learn PHP enough to write it up myself. I was just hoping t...

Re: Automatically block Russian posts

It wouldn't specifically pick out Russian or any other character(s). It would be user defineable. If I enter Russian characters, those would be not allowed. If I entered English characters, those would not be allowed. It would be very customizable. Think of it like word censoring, but with post bloc...

Re: Automatically block Russian posts

I have used different types of questions, never something like 2+2. And while they work for the most part, eventually bots start getting through unless the questions are regularly changed. In addition, as I mentioned, it can discourage or confuse new legitimate users. Anything that can be done that ...

Automatically block Russian posts

Russian spam bots are a pain and even with a variety of different options set to reduce spam, there are always a few that get through. I don't want to make registration overly complex for users by adding all kinds of hoops to jump through and I also don't want to prevent links for new users as the f...

Re: [REQUEST] Logo design help

Thanks, I posted there. I didn't notice the thread before.

As far as not posting all of the information to begin with, I was actually trying to avoid the link just to try and help lower spam bot linking, but I guess that's not really going to make that much difference.

Re: Ranks, Logos, Buttons or any other graphics requests!

Looking for one (or more) logos for the Invision script for mIRC to be used on a phpBB3 forum at http://www.i-n-v-i-s-i-o-n.com/forum/ . The styles being used are: bo2Soft eTech fisubice2 prosilver The current logo doesn't work well in the phpBB3 forum or with the styles. If someone can make a logo ...

Re: Another thought. What are people using for Email validation?

I also cannot get the PHP mail function to work. It worked fine in 2.x, but doesn't work in 3.0.0. Any suggestions for getting it to work would be helpful because it DID work in 2.x, so it's a change in 3.0.0 that doesn't work with however the PHP mail function is set up.

Re: Tips to Convert from PHPBB2 to PHPBB3

You don't need to remove any mods before converting. It will just ignore those when converting your database. A couple things I'll mention that happened here... if you have an admin account, be sure that your e-mail address on it is valid because most likely the converter will not convert the passwo...

[REQUEST] Logo design help

Would anyone be willing to make me up a few logos for my forum? One may be plenty... it will depend if it works for the different themes I am using. The logo we have just doesn't really work with any phpBB3 styles and I'm not a graphic artist. If you're willing to help out, reply and I'll PM you the...

Re: [RC1] reCAPTCHA MOD

Installation went smoothly. We'll see how well this works on a board that receives ~10 new bot registrations per day. I'm betting it will work better than the default catchpa. Good work.

Re: When people start using version 3 ?

Remember that using such "1 click" forum installs, although quick and easy, lead to difficulties when you want to install mods and styles, when you want to update the forum, and when you want to get support here. It really isn't that hard to set up a forum without that "1 click" install option and i...

[Request] User "Pruning"

Prior to updating to 3.0, I'd like to clean out a lot of bogus users. I know that 3.0 will let you automatically remove anyone who has not activated their accounts, but I'd like that and something more prior to upgrading to 3.0. I also think it would be useful for anyone wanting to stick with 2.x fo...
