Re: Failed upgrade from 3.2 to 3.3

Final Report : After nearly two months of attempts to upgrade my forum software from phpBB3.2 to phpBB3.2, I finally gave up. I got lots of tech support from both BlueHost and PHPBB, but the upgrade always encountered errors of various kinds. Part of the problem was the extension I used for the form...

Any extensions would be in the /ext folder.
Thanks. The only extension is VigiLink. So I guess we can't blame the problem on an extension.

Again: the forum content (= data) is stored in the database.
BlueHost created a new database for my Forum. Does that mean the prior content is lost?

They only keep backups for a month, and that change was several weeks ago.

Re: Failed upgrade from 3.2 to 3.3

I've got boards running on Bluehost, so know my way around their setup reasonably well. P_I The phpBB3 support techs seem to have a low opinion of BlueHost, but I have several sites running there, and the only one with a problem is the phpBB3 Forum. It was OK until their recent upgrade to PHP7.4, a...

Re: Failed upgrade from 3.2 to 3.3

Regarding Bluehost, I have lots of clients that use it and I find it touchy. Their shared servers strike me as overly optimized. That they are owned by Endurance International Group is also not a selling point. And I agree about going to second tier support. First tier are usually reading from scri...

Re: Failed upgrade from 3.2 to 3.3

If the PHP version is a possible reason, it's easy enough to write a little script to show PHP's configuration: <?php phpinfo(); ?> I don't know how to do scrips in phpBB. I can see the current version on BlueHost. But the install has not accepted any of the versions we've tried, from 5.6 to 7.4 On...

Re: Failed upgrade from 3.2 to 3.3

Which folder or dir are the user contents saved in? All data is stored in the database. Database backups made using the phpBB ACP backup feature are stored in the /store folder. I don't know how to find things in the database. I have browsed phpMyAdmin, but I don't see anything useful. I guess my b...

Re: Failed upgrade from 3.2 to 3.3

The facts seem to indicate something else, but perhaps he is following my advice and starts looking for that language string, corrects it and everything should be fine (hopefully). Mike This is a non-professional, non-commercial forum, and I'm an amateur. So I don't know how to look for a language ...

Re: Failed upgrade from 3.2 to 3.3

The worst error is actually trying to upgrade and not having a backup. Doesn't Blue host have scheduled backups which you could reset? At least that would be a step forward compared to you last backup-from last year (if I read you correctly). I do have a backup of the old files that the instruction...

Re: Failed upgrade from 3.2 to 3.3

the people that answer at the first level usually don't really have a clue what is going on. robert I was bumped up to a higher level a couple of weeks ago. But I still can't install or login to my forum. Most of my recent chats at BlueHost have been at level one. They have been trying to be helpfu...

Re: Failed upgrade from 3.2 to 3.3

I suggest you start all over again, but on a personal webserver and follow the upgrade instructions using the full package. I've done that three times, and have yet to get a functional install. BlueHost set my Forum on PHP7.2, even though all other sites are on 7.4. I don't know why. The original i...

Re: Failed upgrade from 3.2 to 3.3

Are there lines before this? There is usually a line that shows what program blew up and on what line. BlueHost support looked at the error message above, that ended with << line 312 >>, and said there was a syntax error. Here's their reply " << There is a code throw new OutOfBoundsException(s...

Re: Failed upgrade from 3.2 to 3.3

I was hoping for the phpBB program name and line number that failed, which won't be a program in the vendor folder. There may be an error_log or similar file in your phpBB root folder with PHP errors. If in the ACP, there may be one in the /adm folder for ACP errors. I don't see an error in the << ...

Re: Failed upgrade from 3.2 to 3.3

What procedure did you follow to upgrade from phpBB 3.2 to 3.3? The recommended procedure is https://www.phpbb.com/support/docs/en/3.3/ug/upgradeguide/upgrade32/. Does the old database from phpBB 3.2 still exist or do you have backups? Forum URL : http://enformationism.info/phpBB3/ Can you double-c...

BlueHost found this :

As per the logs, the issue is with the code in line # 312 in the file Definition.php.
