As indicated, I did successfully install using the PHP version 4.4.1 on MySQL. But for reference sake, yes, it worked with PHP 5 when used with MS Access '97.

Though I may have had issues running phpBB2, MySQL4, Apache2 and PHP5; I can say that phpBB2 does work with PHP5 using the MS Access database. So though not supported, there wasn't any tweaking done to get it to work on my end.
