Re: Updating Order

Why not move on to xenforo and other forum software? They add whatever anyone requests to their core and has new features every release. This is the kind of thing dumb open source weenies say when they don't understand the debate. I'm arguing that you take a snapshot of open source projects and mak...

Please tell us where you see an indication that 3.2.x is EOL, because it isn't. Also, the whole idea of the 3.x line was to eliminate Mods and use extensions, which generally survive updates.
He probably heard it on Twitter

Re: Updating Order

Upgrading has nothing to do with a broken installation. It is about progression. phpBB 3.2 supports up to PHP 7.2, while phpBB 3.3 supports PHP 7.3 and PHP 7.4, with PHP 8.0 support coming for 3.3.1 before it's release. I'm running 7.3.18 on 3.2.5 with no problems. 7.3 has some very annoying upgrad...

Re: Updating Order

I would be upgrading because all software has an EOL, and phpBB 3.2 has officially reached it as of July 6, 2020. Yet I know that they are also preparing to release phpBB 3.2.10 soon. It's not supported now; if every issue has a solution of "upgrade to 3.3", then 3.2 is essentially dead. How ridicu...

Re: Must a User Divulge His Email Address?

guess what, there are many many thousands of us out here that don't have smart phones or tablets etc. and therefore we don't get any other type of notifications than email. email is and always has been and probably will be for a long time, one of the main ways people communicate on the net. robert ...

Interesting... so what? What should we do here? Wait for you to make a PR with your proposal? :ugeek:
Maybe learn how to program and stop depending on developers who don't have much vision for the product?

Re: Must a User Divulge His Email Address?

But some people are really paranoid about divulging their email address. It's not many. Everyone has an email address. Many people even have a 'junk' one specifically for cases like this where they want to just register for something. One minute's work and they've got a throw-away gmail account to ...

Re: pm admin only

People have been asking for this for 14 years; I hacked it in with 5 lines of code. Seems like a basic feature to me.

Re: Updating Order

Why are you upgrading? Is there something broken in your installation that's been fixed? If not, why spend the time on an "upgrade"? It's just a few bug fixes that are unlikely to affect you. I don't see any compelling reason to upgrade to 3.3; Im already running php 7.3, jquery 3 is nothing new or ...

Re: group_id field in users table

A registered user is anyone who isnt a bot or anonymous. Both BOTs and ANONYMOUS are registered users as well. That's phpBB, other forum software maybe are not using this system but here that's it, right or wrong you can not change it. You have to live with it or use another software, again. I've f...

Re: group_id field in users table

A better design would be allocating 1-100 for admins, 200-300 for bots and setting the first user account to anonymous, Regardless of whether this makes sense or not phpBB goes back to 2000 and if you needed to you could upgrade to the newest version from those older versions. Trying to implement t...

Re: Why oh why

That's merely a wish and far from being a fact. OpenSSL's Heartbleed , LibTIFF , the Webmin disaster... The code must be audited and understood to actually find bugs, if not threats. But there's nowhere the guarantee anybody does. Not to speak of many. Millions may use it and every single one says ...

Re: group_id field in users table

just because you don't understand how the phpbb permission system works or how to use it properly does not mean there is anything wrong with how it is designed and how it works. I don't understand how to use android phones but that doesn't mean they are designed wrong it just means that I don't und...

Re: Why oh why

To be fair no one can really take/steal a board All extension developers will have total access to your database and an unscrupulous developer could, in theory, extract that data without you knowing about it. They could also "steal" usernames and passwords and use then to then access the ACP. They ...

Re: group_id field in users table

newly registered users are never considered to be registered users in terms of permissions or access. Yes they are otherwise they would never be able to do anything. I would suggest that you get an understanding of how the phpBB permission system works as it appears at the moment you are trying to ...
