Re: Fulltext index attachments

Thank you for the link. I think - unfortunately - I will also not have the time to develop a plugin on my own...

Fulltext index attachments

Hi folks, I am working in a company where they use Sharepoint like a forum which is awful. I would like to introduce phpBB, but I wonder if there is a chance to get attachments to forum posts fulltext indexed. Of course this can't work with images, but with PDF, plain-text attachments it should be q...

Re: phpBB.com mail list idea

My user experience for the new mailing list system (MailMan) is bad. Besides the fact that the site at http://lists.phpbb.com/mailman/options/phpbb-announce does not respond when unsubscribing, it was hard to get there. Just for a mailing list I think presenting a captcha should be enough. I don't w...

Re: Using the Draft Function

This is definitely not very intuitive. My proposal: Label the button "Load draft" with "View/Edit" and remove the existing "View/Edit" button as nobody needs it.

Re: board e-mails dont work

Could not connect to smtp host : 13 : Permission denied I had exactly the same problem on a plain new server and forum (phpBB 3.0.1) installation and upgrade to latest phpBB 3.0.2 did not help either. After a long time of searching around we found out that the apache use cannot create sockets due t...

Install error message that user_regdate cannot be updated

On a fresh install I got the error message in Install_install.php that the user_regdate cannot be updated. After a long searching the forum finding nothing and doing a lot of tries in the code change attempts I found out that on the server somehow the system date was set to something in the future a...

I do not think that we should quarrel about what is the best BB software. As far as I can see, each forum software has it's pros and cons. And I really do not know why often PhpBB is in the media because of security issues and the others less although it is likely that in any such software security ...

This is a thing where every administrator could contribute - writing such a "Howto" as no Php experience required :-)

It will take a while getting used to it but don't oversee that you can now configure roles so you should have less work setting the permissions with the new version because a new user for example can be assigned a role and your permission setting is finished. Further forums can inherit permissions f...

I anticipate more response and feedback, but there isn't alot. I hope not too many folks left phpBB community during all these years, awaiting for this moment. As you are saying this: My impression is that in the last years a lot of BB-software has grown up and some had features like printer friend...

So I also guess that most of the existing mods for PhpBB 2.0.x will not work for PhpBB 3.x, isn't it?

Implementing the additional mods needed to a new 3.x board I see probably less problematic than porting the old data from the database. I actually have a lot of mods applied that changed the DB also. Probably we can get a documentation of database changes so a chance of a manual data transfer will b...

This is being done to prevent the product from turning into a bloated piece of software, which would be very likely to happen if we would add everything our users saw as "requirements" for a board system. In 50% (estimation) of the cases PhpBB is not only used as discussion board. But you...

first impressions / feedback

Here are my first impressions: Good: First thing that one could see is that new default style looks better. The ACP is a huge step forward, right now (on 2.0.x) I have to do a lot when setting security for a newly created board. Although it was at the first look a little confusing because a complete...

Attachment indexing

Hi folks, I have a question regarding fulltext indexing of attachments: What is the current state and what are future plans about adding attachment contents to phpbb fulltext index so that posts can be found when searching for text contained in the attachments. Does the current version of this mod s...
