it's not quite the same thing. technically if you buy a book, you do actually own the book, you own the physical book 100%. everything about the book, you own. except that the book contains a representation of an *intellectual* work, not anything physical. the *information* reproduced in pictorial f...

many people want their stuff out there for free. you know a few bands spring to mind, grateful dead, phish and sigur ros, to name three, who actively support the sharing of live recordings of their concerts. this is not the same as "home taping" where their actual releases get copied, these concerts...

database errors, please help

hello, in the user admin section, i want to make one of my users into an administrator. but when i try to, the page coming up where i can select whether he's an administrator or not doesn't have his username on it (as i suspect it should, and then when i select that he is a moderator and click "subm...

/admin/admin_smilies.php doesn't exist!

hiya, i have a clean install of phpBB 2.0.4 on my site and while in the admin panel, i went to the smilies screen and clicked the 'add new smileys' button at the bottom there. to my surprise, i see this: Not Found The requested URL /bbs/bbs/admin/admin_smilies.php was not found on this server. Apach...

i wouldn't want to put you out of your way and waste your time. i don't actually have cobalt as the default on my board anymore (simply because of the whole thing of not having as much stuff available on the front page as other skins) so i don't want to make you go to a lot of trouble for no real re...

as i say most of them are to do with editing the overall header template and it seems the new styles i have installed have totally differently constructed overall header template files. I try to follow the instructions for each mod but cannot see what to replace with what, where to put what lines et...

New style - old mods not applicable.

I just changed the style of my board to the marvellous Cobalt style, but having applied several mods to my board (hypercells, thread previews all that stuff) to make it easier for people to see the contents of threads from the front page (oh yes and that one about having the login box nearer the top...

[does mod exist?] Cosmetic > looks like phpBB1.4

Helo, i seem to remember seeing a mod a while ago that makes a phpBB2 board look like a phpBB 1.4 board. I want to install this mod but i cannot find it in the database or in the development forum. I was just wondering if anybody else remembers this mod and can tell me where to find it please... tha...

okay then, since i am not happy about only IE users seeing my board i have replaced my /includes/page_header.php file with my old one. both other files are fine. i will probably do a diff on the files to see what the changes were and might try editing them (which will be funny since i know no php!) ...

okay, i have run the 2.0.2 script and the 2.0.3 script in that order, and both said no updates were required. I had already copied the 2.0.2 files over my 2.0.1 files before, i just realised, but then i had not run the updater script. This brings me back to the stage of it still not working and both...

Upgrade from 2.0.1 to 2.0.3, only viewable with IE

hello. i just upgraded my forum from phpBB 2.0.1 to 2.0.3 using the 'changed files' as i do not have shell access to the server. Firstly, it seems like you must now use internet explorer to look at the site. this sucks and did not happen before. I have not tested this extensively, so maybe if you ar...

yup, you can charge for it however the people you are charging must be aware that the source code is available for free, and you must make the source code avcailable for free (eg by making it available for download on a site, or by distributing it on a CD in source format and charging no more than c...

i just wanted to say i really like phpBB, nothing new to add really, heard about it last year when a mate had 1.4 on his site, liked it, got 2.01 for my site this year. Very good, kudos should go to all. i like the fact that it's totally open source, i haven't heard of another forum that is totally ...

wow! nobody's responded! that's really unusual for this board, usually people fall over themselves to answer things like this, in my experience! well sorry to resort to such a tactic, but i'm ^bump^ing this up because i still don't know any real solution for this problem, despite looking through all...
