One installation, many boards

I would like to run multiple boards on one web site, each with an entirely different set of forums and members. Is it possible to share the basic files between multiple boards to make updating simpler, or does each board have to be completely independent.

Is the answer the same or different for 2.2?

It worked!

Brilliant! I installed DB Maintenance, ran the appropriate task and my topics are back. Thank you very much indeed for the tip.

Thanks for the thought, but No. It is switched off in Admin | Configuration and I have checked the database and pruning is set to zero.

Help please - this is getting serious

I've bumped this post because I have now had a second entire topic disappear! My entire Forum will become worthless if topics keep disappearing. What on earth could prevent an entire thread from appearing even though all the text is still there in the data base? The topic is still there in phpbb_top...

Please Help - My topics are going missing

One particular topic has disappeared from one of my Forums. It contained five posts from three different members. However, the text of all the posts is still there in the database. I've tried clicking on Sync but it is still not there. Any ideas?

Is there an activity log somewhere?

Is there an activity log tucked away somewhere? I'm having problems tracing the source of a problem an an activity log would be very useful.

What is the significance of Personal User Group 1

I asked this earlier at the end of another question where, I suspect, it was missed, so I'm trying again as a separate question. Can anyone explain the significance of the 'Personal User' group in phpbb_groups with group_id 1 and group_name Anonymous? Does this group exist by default and what is its...

Why does phpBB put Users into 'Personal User' Groups?

I have noticed from examining the database entries that every time a new member is registered, not only does a new entry appear in phpbb_users giving the new member a user_id (and lots of other entries) but a new 'Personal User' group is created in phpbb_groups with a unique group_id which is linked...

Email double spaced

A brilliant MOD - just what I needed - and it works so smoothly. Just one problem that I cannot solve - the email sent to new users is double spaced. I have actually added quite a lot to the email, which was very easy to do by editing 'admin_welcome_user.tpl', but no matter how I save it, it comes o...

Activation by named member(s) - not by admin

My board is for a club. I want the membership secretary to activate new accounts but I don't want her to have full admin rights. This can't be too unusual. To do this, I need a field in ACP to specify which member(s) should receive activation requests. Does that sound possible to anyone?

Commenting in Template files

I have been editing some template files. Some lines are commented out using: /* Text to be disregarded */ Others using: <!-- Text to be disregarded --> What is the difference between the two? When should I use one and when the other? In particular, which should I use to add a comment part way throug...
