Why is subject field in private messages mandatoty?

Is there a way to make the subject field in private messages not mandatory? Some people try to send private messages forgeting to specify the subject line, and then they complain that their messages are nt being sent.

I install the mod with EasyMod, got the following Critical Error, and added the code from the error manually. It was the only error during the installation so I assume everything else went fine. ICQ notification about new pots

As a site admin, I want to be notified right away when a new post is made on any of my forums. It would be the best if it is done via ICQ (or some other IM software). Is there a way to do it? Or is there maybe some kind of mod for this?
