Re: The world has gone mad.

In 1981 I was driving by an apartment building and saw something drop from a second floor window. I backed up to see what it was, and lying face down and motionless on the ground was a toddler, less than 2. I yelled up at the open window and finally got the mother's attention. She told me to pick t...

Re: Warning modifying

cherokee red,

Thanks a lot for checking that for me. Hope the next RC will let us remove warnings, it'd be really great.

Re: Warning modifying

Sorry to necro this, but would a phpBB staff member be able to confirm for me whether or not warnings can or will be able to be removed?

Re: Euthanasia

The problem I see with allowing euthanasia is that it is too open to abuse, especially when power of attorney is concerned. What if the patient is a minor, or declared "incompetent", and his/her wishes are contradictory to those of his/her parent/guardian? Also, I'm sure everyone is aware of the abu...

Re: Human rights!

I am a robber. I come stealing in your house. I may have a lot of reason for this: pure wickedness, greed, I'm drunk, I need money for my dose of crack, I need money for food for my children, I'm the new Robin Hood robbing the middle class and giving to the poor, I desperately need an object in you...

Re: Human rights!

It depends on the situation, but generally, it is discouraged here in the US as well. While citizen's arrest may be permitted, there's also a little charge known as "unlawful detention / false imprisonment".

Re: Human rights!

Though, if you stop him or push him away, he either has to give up or react against you , in which case you are then allowed to defend and react in your turn. But you can't strike first, so to say. Under the law, if someone is giving you REASON to believe that they are going to harm you, you CAN pr...

Re: Human rights!

Should the criminals have any rights when they are in the process of committing a crime? Most definitely YES. If the crime is against property, the defender has the right to try and stop him, but he can't use violence against the aggressor. How does that make any sense? If someone is determined, vi...

Re: Human rights!

Over where I am, its quite simple. Force used must be reasonable for the situation at hand. My personal feelings: crooks should not be able to sue their victims for the force used against them unless it is BLATANTLY excessive. Though honestly, if the asshole hadn't decided to go and try mugging/atta...

Re: Animal/human hybrids

Besides the fact that humans are animals (Animalia kingdom anybody?), that's obviously not the point of this story. I have to throw up a big "what on earth are they thinking?" Why is it necessary for them to be allowed to do this? There's better things for them to be doing, like finding how to stop...

I know it was implemented in an earlier beta, I saw it myself.

Re: Warning modifying

That could be possible, but in earlier betas, warnings could be removed, so that wouldn't really make sense.

I'm confused. :?

Warning modifying

I'm testing phpBB Beta 5 on my PC localhost and I issued a test user a warning, but for some reason, when I go to manage that account, it says the number of warnings it has received, but it does not allow me to modify that number. Why is that? I'm the "board founder", so I wouldn't think a permissio...
