Re: Idea to stop spam definitevelly (I think easy to impleme

You see I really don't get all this, ask yourself the question: " do I have a spambot problem "? yes/no If it's yes then try a properly set up Q&A and that will be the end of it. If any of you have evidence that Q&A has been breached please report it here I'm sure a lot of people ...

Re: Idea to stop spam definitevelly (I think easy to impleme

And you cannot register if you don't have the link to the registration page. Spambots don't use links, then use code, eg http://rmcgirr83.org/ucp.php?mode=register I don't really get it. You say "Spambots don't use links, they use code" and then as example you give a link. My idea was to ...

Re: Idea to stop spam definitevelly (I think easy to impleme

What if I rename the registration PHP page to a random name so random visitors (spammers) will not find it anymore? You're assuming that spambots only find the registration page because it has a particular name, are you sure that is the case for every spambot or even any of them? You cannot post if...

Re: Deleting all users with 0 posts

I have found out (in admin log).
In a batch I manage to delete 2069 users. In another one about 2500. But mostly I deleted way below 1000 to keep my browser alive.
More info: total inactive users 11500.

Isn't spam great???

Re: Deleting all users with 0 posts

I don't remember PhpBB to tell how many users I selected to delete. I know that the whole DB was 12MB (the backup file uncompressed) before deleting the users and 6.6 ater deleting the users. Initially the label of the bottom of the board was showing about 1700 reg users. The browser freezes if i tr...

Re: Deleting all users with 0 posts

Thanks Kevin but that feature is crashing my browser. When I activate it, the browser turns unresponsive and the only cure is to kill if from task manager. ------------ I managed to delete about 4000 inactive users by doing additional filtering by date. However, now, PHPBB refuses to delete anymore ...

Deleting all users with 0 posts

Hi. I have found a topic from 2006 that says this SQL command will delete all users with zero posts: DELETE FROM `phpbb_users` WHERE (`user_posts`=0 AND `user_active`=0 AND `user_id`!=-1); However, it is not working. I guess PHPBB table structure was updated since then :) So, can anybody update the ...

Re: Idea to stop spam definitevelly (I think easy to impleme

why would they be able to post their views anywhere else faster? If I follow the 'manually create accounts' idea, the registration on my forum would take one day (because I have to manually register the users). While on a 'normal' forums, the registration (and possibility to post) takes seconds-min...

Re: Idea to stop spam definitevelly (I think easy to impleme

Wouldn't it be easier to remove registration altogether and register the users yourself after a request. I think this is really frustrating. Any visitor that has something to discuss will want to post immediately. If they can't do that, there is a high chance that they will abandon the attempt and ...

Idea to stop spam definitevelly (I think easy to implement)

Hi. My forum was invaded with spam (especially from russia) and I am thinking to a simple trick that will keep most spammers away (especially the ones that are using automated tools to spam). What if I rename the registration PHP page to a random name so random visitors (spammers) will not find it a...
