i have directed most of my work into MDB and MDB2 which build from the PEAR::DB and Metabase ...

Thanks. But.... If I understand it correct the php code needs to be encoded for any benefit to be gained right? And do I need the Zend encoder to do that? It has a huge pricetag on it $960+ ! the C implementation of PHP is opensource by definition, but the same does not apply to code written IN php

and where is that different from what i said?

actually there is one difference ... the phpbb group expects all users to retain the copyright/credit notice .. this is not standard GPL but they do enforce this requirement to some extend

i recommend getting some tool that can compare two files

running a search on google should reveal a bunch of programs that are freely available

that way you can easily determine if a file has changed from one release to another

commercial use is ok of course it only gets interesting if you change any of the code then you have to provide access to the changed code .. thats all i assume few people will annoy you about changes in the templates (are those even under the same license) and definately not about adding your own logo

been awhile since i have actively checked this part of the board
back then there were a couple projects well ahead with creating a portal around the phpbb2 framework

banner support will most likely not be part of phpbb ... more likely part of the php portal project .. but i am not one of their devs
