Can this happen if I didn't log out from a previous session/IP and his computer used the same IP that I used previously? No, but it could happen if you two were on the same computer at some point and the "Log me on automatically each visit" box is checked. Sessions are tracked by local cookies that...

This makes total sense - is it the same as creating a new category/forum?

Yes. If you don't want the posts to be visible anymore, set the forum permissions to "Admin".

In viewtopic.php find:

Code: Select all

$user_sig = '<br />_________________<br />' . str_replace("\n", "\n<br />\n", $user_sig);

If you use the "delete" function - yes.

If you use the "prune" function - no.

Suggestion: Make an admin-only forum and move the threads to be deleted to it so they are out of sight. Then, from the AdminCP, set that forum to auto prune.

Hope that helps.

Or less likely . . . it could be that your hosting service is using some sort of server/browser caching software that is acting funky. I've had this problem before, with the result that I would delete something, but from the web it appeared that the changes were never made until the server cache upd...

No. You would need to modify phpBB to make this possible. My brief search of the mod database didn't turn anything up. Sorry.

You can make it more difficult, however, for people to pass off someone else's pictures as their own. On most photography message boards, the photographers use visible and invisible watermarks to identify their photos as their own. You might suggest that to your users. What is invisable watermarks?...

Never mind. I figured it out. MySQL configuration was set to force strict field sizes. As the quotes(") in the title were being excepted (\), the field length was growing to exceed the limit.

To fix:

In the MySQL 5 ini file, change sql-mode="blahblabblah" to sql-mode=''''

"Data too long for column"

When editing the topic title/post subject of the first post in a topic from May I Rant, Please? to Mastermind's Rant Thread (was "May I Rant, Please?") , I get the following error message: Error in posting DEBUG MODE SQL Error : 1406 Data too long for column 'topic_title' at row 1 UPDATE phpbb_topic...

Here's how we did it. 1. We wrote a simple mod to add all the registered users to a "default" group and to add all new registering users to the default group. 2. Make the exclusive group private and assign it to the default group. 3. Remove the people you don't want to have access from the default g...

Expanded use for the "Interests" profile field

I am interested in expanding the usefulness of the "Occupation" and the "Interests" fields in the phpBB profile. Here are my questions: 1. How can I get the "Interests" fields to include line breaks (carriage returns) when displayed on the profile page. If a member enters a list of "interests," each...
