I will answer this question with the same question I ask everyone that asks for server sizing... how many users will you have? How many page views per month? How many concurrent sessions do you want to support? Those are the questions that you need to answer before you can decide how much server yo...

I NEED HELP!!! PLEASE!!!

I need some help. I'm pricing out computers right now. I need to know what computer I should get and the OS. What server type do you recommend? Apache or IIS. I want to know if Apache is available as a free download. I know IIS 5.1 is included with Windows XP Professional. But apparently, IIS 5.1 is...

MennoniteHobbit, I wasn't comparing Windows Vista and Mac OS X by only system requirements. I was also comparing them by stability, speed, and compatibility. Obvisously, you didn't read my entire post.

Windows Vista vs Mac OS X

Microsoft has designed Windows Vista. Its got a nice interface... :? and I can't really think of anything good. Apple has designed Mac OS X. Mac OS X has a better looking interface than Windows Vista, it has super-low system requirements, it boots up fast on any computer and its extremely stable. Pl...

I can't understand that though. How can 800 Mhz be too slow to run Windows Vista? Its plenty to run Windows XP. Windows Vista's system requirements are 4 times those for Windows XP. I think Microsoft should further delay Windows Vista and try and improve it so that it can run on slower computers. My...

I'm not touching Windows Vista. I'll wait until Windows Fiji so that all the bugs are worked out. For now I'll just stick with Windows XP and wait for SP3.

And you don't think that the OSX minimum specs go up as new versions are released? The minimum system requirements for Mac OS X 10.0, 10.1, 10.2, and 10.3 stayed the same. -A G3 processor -128 MB of RAM -A video card -2 to 4 GB of hard disk space for installation The only increase in the minimum sy...

The only software requirement that looks a little odd is the: 11 GB of hard disk space for installation Where is your source ? Seems like a lot for an OS regardless if its new or not. If you can't meet the min specs with the other requirements, your computer is pretty outdated :S The system require...

Yes, the Windows Aero GUI is optional. You have the choice to use a interface similar to Luna (the interface used in Windows XP). But you still need a 32 MB video card. And the 512 MB of RAM is just so you can run the OS and 1 or 2 applications. If you are a power user you're going to need 4 times t...

I think I'm going to stay away from Vista forever. I'm going to stick with XP. And I don't know how you figure the price of Vista will go down. Windows XP hasn't decreased in price in its 5 years on the market.

Thanks for the help, drathbun! :D

I just wanted to ask you, how many members do you figure I can fit on a 160 GB HD? And I was reading up on Microsoft SQL Server: Express Edition and its says that the maximum database size is 4 GB. What does that mean?

Thanks,

Jon :)

Let's all face it. XP is likely to be the last good Windows we will ever have. Vista is bloated, and polluted with DRM. Long live XP... When XP dies (gets obsolete or if Microsoft discontinues security fixes) it should then be a good time for a full-scale exodus to Linux, and then we can set the st...
