I can think of several different reasons: People don't want it to appear as though they're using free software, because they're trying to run a business site People don't want to appear as though they're using phpBB, because they've set up a whole site around the forums and/or significantly modifie...

Re: Windows vs. Linux

Over the past year, I've been pitting these 2 operating systems against each other. I've bounced back and forth between Windows and Linux, and have come to the conclusion that: Windows is marginally superior as of now AND Linux continues to improve, and is playing a bigger and bigger role in my lif...

what is the best ads server for forums ? adsense, adengage, adbrite or stg else ? I used to use adsense, until I reached about $98 in my account, then they just disabled my account & refused to tell me why, I just got automated replies to my emails. I found out that this happens to a lot of people,...

There are completely random pages that have PR 4 while my site hasn't changed at all. There's a 2 week-old blog whose PR is 4. Huh?

That was a quick judgment by that man between breaking the code of the law but upholding the spirit of the law. Heroism at its best.

Ah, nice find. I did learn a long time ago from experience that Google's more prone to punishing websites or webpages that it doesn't like. I guess title-spamming is a characteristic.

Google already makes its own linux distributions, and it has its toolbar for Firefox. Next step? Petroleum. That's where all the money lies :P

Google backlinks are more persistent if you have nice URLs. I SEO'd all my urls, so the third page of a topic whose ID is 12712 would link to be http://originxt.com/node/12712.30

I have 15 posts a page.

Hm, that seems like quite an idea.

Similarly if anyone googles up a list of un-updated phpBB forums, you will see a huge list of potential victims to hacking attempts.

Can't the pages be different for search engines than regular users? We users can get the ajaxed pages and search engines can get the regular easy-navigation HTML pages.

Problem solved :)

I don't earn much money off my site, but it's barely enough to cover hosting (and domain renewal) and that's pretty much all I need it to do. Web-design is a hobby, anyway.

Oh yes, that's pretty much the case with me too. And yeah, the terms/disclaimer took me weeks to make. But I made sure it covered everything from legal ownership of materials posted, etc. But it's not supposed to be just discussion, though. It's also an RP forum and a place I can practice my program...
