Re: Spambots with Q&A CAPTCHA?

I'm of the opinion it's a coincidence as well along with an increase in human spammers. I might have gone with this initially. However, over the last week the spam registrations have continued to increase and are spread pretty evenly throughout the day at all hours. The names also are completely ra...

Re: Spambots with Q&A CAPTCHA?

I had another 28 attempted registrations overnight (admin activation prevented them). I did have one that managed to register and post this morning even with the admin activation requirement. The admin activation is working except for the single one overnight. The spam it is generating notifying me ...

Re: Spambots with Q&A CAPTCHA?

I've had spam registrations ever since upgrading to the latest version last week getting through the Q&A (use variation on the x number of letters from the last word in the previous sentence). The other forum I run (very tiny 5-7 users) also was upgraded but hasn't been hit yet. edit: ugh, just ...

Re: Virus Worry

Well, on the new server with the php5, newer mysql, and new cp from the hosting provider. My site was clean for a couple of weeks and now the infection is back. Replacing my index.php file with a clean copy removes the threat. The infected file is 4,952 bytes the clean one is 4,817 bytes. I've looke...

Re: A problem with the forum's index pages

I was having this same issue (search for thread called virus worry). My hosting provider moved me to a new server (php5 vs old one at php4) and a new control panel. That seemed to have solved my issues. However, I have had one person say they got the same pop up again post new server/CP. I just saw ...

Re: Virus Worry

Forgot to mention, my subdomain is not a dedicated IP. Even using the direct IP doesn't get me to my subdomain. I did use my hosts file to get my main domain showing up on my home computer. I love the hosts file.

Re: Virus Worry

One way to find out is to log into their demo control panel for new customers and browse through their mysql settings. IX have mysql 5 and php 5 on their new servers. They have offered to upgrade me for free too which is nice. I am currently just trying to negotiate a couple of day roll over as I a...

Re: Virus Worry

I've been told the MySQL servers I'm on have been updated to 4.4.9. The phpbb software and the myphp admin are all still showing 4.1.20 still. This leads me to believe that I am not truly updated yet. 4.4.9 is the PHP version there isn't a MySQL 4.4.9 ;) It should be noted that MySQL 4.1.x has very...

Re: Virus Worry

I've had much worse than IX. All in they've been really good for me actually (had my domain registrations moved to them as well too). They have even said I can move over to a php 5 site, but I'll have to fully reupload my entire hosting account. I will probably go on and do this, but it is a project...

Re: Virus Worry

I'm curious how this turned out for the OP. I am having the same issue with my two forums with IX Webhosting as well. I've been told the MySQL servers I'm on have been updated to 4.4.9. The phpbb software and the myphp admin are all still showing 4.1.20 still. This leads me to believe that I am not ...

The other funny thing is I was wondering how you all knew what my forums were. Then it hit me that I have it linked in my profile...duh.

On another note, I did play with the 3.0 beta on another domain I have that is unused. I'm really looking forward to it and hope it is released soon.

Odd. I wonder if I changed the permissions somehow when I converted from postnuke down to a plain phpbb. That makes me both an idiot and an ass in the thread I suppose. grrrr.

Thanks.

There is a long running thread on blocking spam linked in my signature. It will give you some tips on what to do to cut down on spam. Yes, I agree. I also specifically said I looked there and found a solution to one part of the problem. I grabbed one of the mods that bans a user that registers in u...

Posts in hidden and locked forums

I've recently had odd spam issues. I have a forum where I move locked threads that need to be moved from my regular forums (mods move threads here rather than delete so we can keep up with who is breaking what rules). Lately I've had spammers posting in these thread as a guest. These forums are both...

PNphpbb to phpbb - "What I did right and what I did wro

After a couple of days of going a little nuts I finally got everything converted and working on my PNphpbb to phpbb conversion. I thought I would share my experiences, troubles, and solutions to hopefully make someone elses' conversion simpler. This conversion involved PNphpbb2 1.2h to phpbb 2.0.21....
