Re: Preventing SPAM - Bots and Humans [*Read the First Post!*]

Well a bot could have been designed, since I've just found out that my site has been hacked! Now it could be a human too who has some way to bypass it all, as it seems someone has been determined to attack my site. My front page portal is gone, and some of the forums were changed to "hacked&qu...

Re: Preventing SPAM - Bots and Humans [*Read the First Post!*]

most likely you need to uninstall all the different things you have done and simply install the RAC MOD. if you have a bot that is bypassing it, you are the only one out of many, many thousands of people that have been using it for over a year with no "bot" registrations. for your informa...

Re: Preventing SPAM - Bots and Humans [*Read the First Post!*]

I have already installed the RAC mod and the bots still get through. So it is not "done" as you say. RAC may stop a bot that goes through the usual process of registering and filling out the form, but if it uses a system where it doesn't even have to use the form but can submit the inform...

Re: Preventing SPAM - Bots and Humans [*Read the First Post!*]

Well I'm not sure if the "hacks" (aka mods) I installed from these links are the same ones as some of the mods on this board, but from the descriptions they sound like they are. The log registration IP mod is here: http://www.phpbbhacks.com/download/2975 And the photo visual confirmation ...

Re: [2.0.20] registration disable website signature

Please try the file again, I made one small adjustment but see no reason why it would allow anyone to register if those fields are not blank. Can you unhide those fields in the tpl and test to see what is happening? Is this getting off topic? I don't think it's off topic because while this mod rela...

Well the modifications you made still didn't stop the bots registering. The bot can still register with its birthday and ICQ number in the profile. :(

I don't understand why it isn't stopping them from registering in the first place?

Backup your current one first though before overwriting.

Re: [2.0.20] registration disable website signature

You obviously have issues with your includes/usercp_register.php file....if you like post a text link to it (open the file save it as whatever.txt, upload to your forum and post a link to it) and I will have a look at it for you. Thank you. The link to the usercp_register.php text is here: http://w...

Re: [2.0.20] registration disable website signature

Well I installed the mod with the birthday field modifications to prevent bots from still entering information into that field. However, to my horror, this morning I found that a bot still managed to register with that field filled in anyway. This particular bot always shows that has never activated...

Re: [2.0.20] registration disable website signature

What is this? user_registerip Because it doesn't line up with the value being 'testuser' BTW, the edits go after the first find of // End You obviously need to check edits done to your includes/usercp_register.php file. Ok thanks. The user_registerip was part of a code for a mod that logged the ip ...

Re: [2.0.20] registration disable website signature

if ( ($mode == 'register') && (($signature != '')||($website != '')||($birthday<>'999999')) ) make sure that the edits required for this mod fall after this in your usercp_register.php file // End add - Birthday MOD Well I tried this suggestion and then tried to register under a test user, ...

Re: [2.0.20] registration disable website signature

Yes, you can do that as well. :) Just add something like ||($birthday != '') in there after ||($website != ''). I do not know what the birthday variable will be, so I doubt that will work. You need to figure out what the variable is for the birthday fields. Ok thanks. Well I thought it might be som...

Re: [2.0.19] Easy BotStopper

I have a birthday mod installed on my forum. I have also removed that field in addition to the website field as I'm fed up of bots inputting a date of birth and then having birthdays appearing at the bottom of the forum. However, despite removing the birthday field, some bots still manage to fill th...

Re: [2.0.20] registration disable website signature

You do not need to adapt the mod to include it, just run a quick check on the field and make sure it is blank, like this mod does. ;) I'm not too sure what you mean by making sure the field is blank. Do you mean making sure it is invisible to registrants when they are signing up? Would this be done...
