Re: Converter Release: Snitz Forums to PHPBB and PHPNuke

Yep, I think phil is right, looks like the script has timed out (ie: PHP has cancelled execution because it took too long). I'm surprised it's happening after 375 users though, I've converted several thousand without a timeout, which is why I added the batch processing option for the posts/topics on...

Re: Converter Release: Snitz Forums to PHPBB and PHPNuke

It looks like you've edited part of the script and deleted a tag, quote or something. Go over everything you've edited and double-check the syntax, or start from scratch and make your changes to a fresh copy of the converter.

Cheers!

Re: Converter Release: Snitz Forums to PHPBB and PHPNuke

Please check your Snitz users table for id's around 450 to 500 (where you're getting the error) - are all the ids there and are they sequential, or is one missing (ie: does it go 460, 461, 462, 463 or does it go 460, 461, 463 , 464 etc). The error you posted is a symptom, not the cause. The error yo...

Re: Converter Release: Snitz Forums to PHPBB and PHPNuke

There's only one minor issue that I've come across, namely that the URL BB code in Snitz requires quotation marks and phpBB doesn't. Yes, there are some curiosities with different versions of Snitz. I noticed that the versions of Snitz I've converted so far don't use the [ url="blah" ] syntax, they...

Re: Converter Release: Snitz Forums to PHPBB and PHPNuke

do you know which versions? I looked for the info on snitz forum but could not find it... No, sorry. I only found out because I spent some time analyzing the Snitz source code to make this converter. The best way to do this is try to dump the Snitz passwords directly into the PHPBB users table then...

Re: Converter Release: Snitz Forums to PHPBB and PHPNuke

But why are passwords not working for anyone? Different versions of Snitz encode passwords in different ways. This is why my converter doesn't take over the passwords. So your users will need to use the PHPBB password recovery option. However later versions of Snitz use md5 hashes to store the pass...

Re: Converter Release: Snitz Forums to PHPBB and PHPNuke

You didn't read all the instructions, did you. Be honest now ;) The script is looking for the utility code in mysql.php, which you should have copied to the same place as the conversion script. Basically these files must all be in the same directory on your webserver: mysql.php phpbb-ports.php searc...

D¡cky wrote:As a point of information, the phpBB3 database is wildly different from phpBB2.
Ok, useful to know. And that pretty much precludes me from recoding the converter :)

Same thing with the bombing out at the end.
Is there anything at all in the phpbb_topics or posts tables?

Re: Converter Release: Snitz Forums to PHPBB and PHPNuke

It should be easy enough to do, I'm sure the phpbb3 database format isn't wildly different from v2. If I have time I might do it, otherwise anyone else is welcome to have a go - the code is thoroughly commented.

Cheers dicky, couldn't remember what the latest phpbb version2 was...

Re: Converter Release: Snitz Forums to PHPBB and PHPNuke

PhPBB (latest download from this site)
That might be your problem. The converter is for phpbb 2.0.x only. You'll need to install 2.0.21, run the conversion, then upgrade phpbb to v3.

Re: Converter Release: Snitz Forums to PHPBB and PHPNuke

Two questions.

1. Have you applied the patch (see the first post in this thread)?

2. Has Snitz archived all the posts before this date? If so the converter won't pick them up because Snitz archives are not part of the forum anymore.

Cheers!

Re: Converter Release: Snitz Forums to PHPBB and PHPNuke

After merging users, I get this... Ah, damn. I forgot about that bit. All the categories and forums wil be offset by N too. That's relatively easy to fix. At first I was like whatever, and I just went through and deleted the post (didn't really need it anyways). So I kept doing that and I have dele...

Re: Converter Release: Snitz Forums to PHPBB and PHPNuke

Try this: http://www.amazingbrass.co.uk/dist/externaldist/snitz2phpbb-experimental-merge.zip This is TOTALLY experminental. It should merge your Snitz forum with an existing PHPBB forum, but who knows - it might format your hard drive instead. Use at your own risk. To try it, download the v0.3 conve...

Re: Converter Release: Snitz Forums to PHPBB and PHPNuke

The reason it merges users is because most people install phpbb, create the first phpbb user (admin user) and name it the same as their account on the old snitz forum. Merging the users removes the need to mess around with setting the admin user. It doesn't merge posts because I never had a need to ...
