Re: install forum on local server for internal access only?

Why not do this the easy way? - http://www.phpbb.com/kb/article/installing-and-setting-up-your-own-web-server/ Thanks a ton for the link. I tried xampp but couldn't get apache running so I jumped to wamp. I reinstalled xampp and after a restart apache fired right up and everything went perfectly. F...

Re: install forum on local server for internal access only?

Yes everyone that will have access to this forum will be trusted with any information on it. Now trusted not to do anything stupid might be another thing but if this forum takes off I will think more seriously about making sure it's done well. When I go to the phpbb install page it now says it has m...

Re: install forum on local server for internal access only?

Oh also when I try to launch the mysql console it asks for a password but I never set one. I typed one where it says password in the .ini but it still won't open.
Also if I click on mysqlbuddy on my home page it says
Forbidden

You don't have permission to access /sqlbuddy/ on this server.

Re: install forum on local server for internal access only?

Windows. No I didn't change anything. I installed apache, PHP and mysql separately first and had some issues. While reasearching my problems I found a lot of people recomended xampp or wamp so I tried xxamp first. it acted funky and I didn't really like it so I tried wamp. This gave me some trouble ...

Re: install forum on local server for internal access only?

Ok I am using WAMP and got it running to the point I can get to the forum install page with the browser so Apache and PHP are working. Mysql doesn't seem to be working though. The service won't start. When I go to the log this is what it says. I'm pretty new to the server side of things. What do I n...

install forum on local server for internal access only?

Our company has a local server where we store files and info. I'm not sure if it's windows or linux or if it has LAMP or anything like that.
I am wondering if it is possible and what it would take to set up a forum on the network for internal access only?

Thanks for the input.
We have made quite a few changes so I think this will be the best way to go.

Codechange update question

We need to update from 2.17 to .21
I found files that go step by step 2.17 to 18 then 18 to 19 etc. I was wondering if this was the only/best option or if there was a consolidated 2.17 to 21 file.

If you don't want to do all the continual work that this entails, perhaps write code that prevents or limits the number of links a newly registered user can put into a post. (I already limit links for guest posters to a public forum, but haven't make the jump to apply to newly registered users in n...

I assume the Troll mod only works for return offenders right?

I would assume we are dealing mostly with real people now but I don't really know.
Is there any way to know if a spammer is a bot or a person?

I just installed [2.0.20] registration disable website signature and the mod that keeps unregistered users off the memberlist. We were getting an overwhelming number of new members in the memberlist who turned out to be unregistered so these mods made that problem fairly manageable. Unfortunately a ...
