Re: Understanding groups

Thank you, Mick. And yes, I have been through the user guide from one end to the other. Having said that, I hope you can appreciate that phpBB has become so sophisticated that there is quite literally a labyrinth of options and configurations for us to wend our way though to solutions. And I, for on...

Re: Understanding groups

How... can I use the NRUG without needing to approve messages?

Where... in the ACP are the settings about the quantity of posts requiring approval of messages?

Re: Understanding groups

Your reticence is admirable but I wonder if you might find it in your heart to indulge loquacity at least until you achieve a somewhat more meritorious conclusion.

Thanks kindly ;-)

Re: Understanding groups

I had to think about this one. The confusing part seems to be around the "group permissions" and "group forum permissions". In "group permissions" there isn't a "no access role". I'm not sure what the purpose of this section is. In "group forum permissions" I can select all the forums I want then as...

Re: Thank you, thank you, thank you!

I'd like to echo JLA's sentiments. I began with phpbb 2 in May of 2003 and it's still holding up well. I am in the process of upgrading to 3.1.x and the good folks here never tire of helping out. Well done and thank you. And an added note to compliment the absolutely stunning job everybody has done ...

Re: Understanding groups

First off, thanks all. That clarifies a lot. Currently, on my phpBB 2.x, while keeping the forum low maintenance and user friendly, and as part of my "spambot detection" strategies, I use a two tier system for new users. Using the "Anti-Spam ACP Created By Exreaction" it has trapped nearly a million...

Re: [URL] Permission

Hi Kev, Yes, that's true. I guess I'm looking for a compromise that (a) reduces the amount of moderator intervention, and (b) decreases delays for new members. It's a subtle distinction I agree but it's a distinction that's worked splendidly for me for almost ten years on phpBB 2x on a site that exi...

Re: Error 1281

Thought I'd come back and follow up on this.

I had gotten my search and replace queries all set and tested but before running them on the live database an idea occurred to me. Turns out if I set image height and width settings to zero (for unlimited) all the image error message vanish.

Re: Error 1281

L.B., Yes, the old board is online and working. I disabled it during the conversion attempt. But because the new board had no forum or topic info yet there was nothing to see and no link to click. However, since the new board was installed and working I could probably have created a link such as... ...

Re: Error 1281

I had saved about 20 pages of error messages before I finally aborted the conversion process. At the rate it was going, I estimate over 200 pages in all and I would have to be attentive to the conversion process for over six hours in order to collect them. There is no way I want to manually edit tha...
