Re: PHP Warnings when submit post with links in it

I was afraid you'd say that. It seems your blanket advice to anybody having a problem after an update is to use the Full Package as described in the article at https://www.phpbb.com/support/docs/en/3.2/kb/article/updating-32x/ Of course, it says at the top of that article, "The method described...

PHP Warnings when submit post with links in it

I've had a problem similar to that described in previous post "the links not clickable" at https://www.phpbb.com/community/viewtopic.php?f=556&t=2510821 I updated my forum from 3.2.5 to 3.2.7 using the Patch file method. The update went smoothly but afterward, found that links in new p...

This image shows what happens if I try to clear the address when "managing" the anonymous user.

Unable to clear Anonymous user email address

I'm having the same problem I found in some old posts in the 3.0.x archives. See Reset anonymous user's email address to default? (from 2009) and Anonymous User (from 2014). But I'm running phpBB 3.2.5 now, and the ACP still provides no way to resolve the problem. An Administrator of our board set a...

Will there be a new version of the Support Toolkit to work with this version of phpBB?

Re: Preventing Spam in phpBB 3.0.6 [*Read First Post*]

Regarding the Newly Registered Users Group: Be aware that this feature is not retroactive -- users who registered prior to a board's upgrade to phpBB3 will not be placed in the Newly Registered Users group, regardless of their post count. As a minor correction, "phpBB3" should be replaced ...

Re: Preventing Spam in 3.0 [*Read First Post*]

Hi tara, I am somewhat amazed that the Knowledge Base article on Custom Profile Fields still hasn't been updated. That article was posted in October 2008, when phbBB 3.0.2 was the current version. Since then, the custom profile field functionality has changed a number of times, with the result that ...

Re: Discuss: phpBB 3.0.5 released

Now that 3.0.5 has been released --- There's a Knowledge Base article on Custom Profile Fields as an Anti-Spammer Tool with screenshots that have been out-of-date for some time. Those screenshots were probably made in 3.0.2 and already didn't work in 3.0.4, making it necessary to post information re...

Re: Preventing Spam in 3.0 [*Read First Post*]

Unfortunately the first spambot has already outsmarted it - or actually, the board let it in despite it answering wrong (I was denied signup when betatesting thus). I think, though, that I will give the system a few days to see more results. It wasn't necessarily a spambot that "outsmarted&quo...

Re: Preventing Spam in 3.0 [*Read First Post*]

Has anything been done to the custom profiles? I don't even have CAPTCHA enabled and if nothing was done to the custom profile fields AND IF 3.04 is still considered secure I may not bother with this update. I would definitely recommend updating, as there are lots of bug fixes for phpBB overall and...

Re: Discuss: phpBB 3.0.5 released

Use the patch file. If you use the patch file its a simple case of executing a single line from a terminal and uploading the patched files. I'm a big fan of the patch file method. I was even using it for updates to phpBB2 before upgrading to phpBB3. It does require access to, and familiarity with, ...

Re: Preventing Spam in 3.0 [*Read First Post*]

I looked into Knowledge Base - Custom Profile Fields as an Anti-Spammer Tool , and I'm confused why he hasn't checked "Display at registration screen", yet it displays on his registration screen. When duplicating his shown moves, I do not get it to display. I am assuming it is a version d...

Re: Preventing Spam in 3.0 [*Read First Post*]

how come everyone who has made the changes suggested at the top of this forum isn't getting spammed to death? If the spam bots were using valid email addresses they would dive straight in to every site they have a go at which is set to 'by user' which would be hundreds or thousands of users that co...

Re: Preventing Spam in 3.0 [*Read First Post*]

@Neomorte: I would suggest try setting registration to 'by user'. That way the spam bots cannot get back to your site to complete registration without first going to the email address they have supplied and clicking the registration link. As we know all these mail addresses are bogus and only suppl...

Re: Preventing Spam in 3.0 [*Read First Post*]

I have set phpbb to use the Administrator activation for new user accounts. I have also added 3 different required fields for registrations to answer to help eliminate spambots. I have been getting several spam accounts created that skip the entire registration approval and sometimes don't catch th...
