I spoke too soon. It's timing out again, this time with a post I just made and deleted. Here's the error message: FastCGI Error The FastCGI Handler was unable to process the request. Error Details: The FastCGI process exceeded configured activity timeout Error Number: 258 (0x80070102). Error Descrip...

Cannot delete user. phpBB 3.0.11 and MySQL 5.5.32

Re: Strange characters after database restore, and new posts

Please see these posts on my forum, for examples. http://www.scottkeen.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=354182#354182 See the square box character between "I" and "ve". It's probably supposed to be an apostrophe, but it's coming up as a square box character. The poster appears to be from Germany. http://ww...

Strange characters after database restore, and new posts!

After doing a restore of my phpBB database, some posts have the following strange characters in them:

Code: Select all

50
10 + 5 post (UK)
Not only are these appearing in old messages, but in new messages too.

Any ideas what's going here?

Re: Critical Error: Could not connect to the database

did you try 'localhost' instead of '127.0.0.1' ? ... I've tried localhost , 127.0.0.1, nothing works. Yes, tried that. I finally got it to work. I don't know what did it, but I did the following and something worked: uninstalled PHP5 uninstalled PHP4 unistalled Microsoft FastCGI deleted php4ts.dll ...

Browser Used MOD?

Is there a "Browser Used" Mod which shows on the Admin page which browser the user or guest last used?

Is there a similar Mod which also puts this Browser Used information on the posts?

Re: How can I block FIREFOX browsers from accessing my forum?

I would think the same thing. However, it's possible the php extension in Windows IIS runs slower. It's a DOS callout. I don't know, but maybe there's a DOS instance running php for every request? If so, I could see how multiple simultaneous threads making DOS instances to run php could really bog d...

Re: How can I block FIREFOX browsers from accessing my forum?

Thank you, T0ny. Yes, I understand that other FireFox users, not running the fasterfox extension with multiple tabs opened, are going to be blocked as a result, but as I've said many times I don't want to block any browser long-term -- I have paid advertisers who wouldn't want that for the long-term...

Re: How can I block FIREFOX browsers from accessing my forum?

I'm discussing this with other techs and people using FireFox themselves, and we're pretty certain the problem is with the fasterfox extension for FireFox and multiple tabs opened in different forums/threads. Prefetch Links Dynamic speed increases can be obtained with Fasterfox's unique prefetching ...

Re: How can I block FIREFOX browsers from accessing my forum?

I'll have a guess. I see from the screenshot that he initially logged in 2 hours earlier. I'm wondering if he's got tabs open for each forum and then he's gone away or he's playing a game or something and left the browser on in the background. After a certain amount of time of inactivity (I think i...
