Re: Discuss: phpBB to ship with VigLink extension

2) Donations are not a realistic means of generating a sufficient revenue stream to make this happen. How can you possibly know this for certain if you won't even try it? The cookie law is a serious concern to those of us who run sites in EU countries, that concern will not be diminished by your in...

Re: Discuss: phpBB to ship with VigLink extension

In short, while I'm not saying that we'll never accept donations, it would not provide the steady revenue stream that our organization needs. Why not do both, the (optional) extension and paypal donations? I will never have advertising/affiliates on my site but I would donate if the option were ava...

Re: How do you add in a non pickable blank line on a drop down list?

I have used a 'Country' custom field for many years now, required on registration. It works fine and nobody has found it confusing or difficult. My board is in English and the main target area is the UK so this is my version of the 'entries' field... --- Please Select --- England Ireland Scotland Un...

Re: Is PHPBB Ready For The Big Time....NOT!

Why should the developers have to do everything for you? They already give their time and knowledge to create software that they allow you to use, completely free. If you're not willing or able to learn how to use the software and/or run a website then don't. Learn to do things for yourself or emplo...

No, it was not, phpBB software does not auto update and by your own admission you are the only person with admin access. And shouting does not alter reality.

Re: Hide Forum Entirely

The .htaccess trick should do what he/she wants, redirect the rest of the world to a static page while allowing him/her to access the forum.

Another option would be to password protect the folder containing the forum.

If you're on an apache server you could use .htaccess to redirect any traffic not from your IP address.

Re: SEO - Optimize on phpbb

I have a site that is "straight out of the box" phpBB - no SEO, no human readable urls, no nothing other than content and it is at least on the first page of any Google search (obviously using the appropriate key words) if not in the top three. Same here, my site is nine years old and has over 1650...

2. Prosilver theme isn't a very pretty theme. It's just okay. I agree, which is why I created a unique child theme (based on Prosilver) for my site. The three examples you linked to in your previous post are not 'pretty' to my eye either, I find them very bland. There's no single theme that would b...
