Forcing first post to be in a specific forum

Hello

We have an "introductions forum" which we would like new members to post in as their first post, before they venture to other forums within the board. Is there a way of forcing this?

Thanks...

The best way to combat spam?

I feel we're seeing an increase in automated spam, lately. It used to be in whichever forum had the most posts, as a new topic, so was often quite easy to spot (although still a pain to remove). Nowadays it's more frequent, can appears as replies to existing messages and can appear in any of the ind...

Re: The hardest question of all... how do you get new users?

In order to get a forum off the ground, you need activity first and foremost. People will decide whether to join a forum or not, depending on whether the board looks active. I personally find post exchanges useful in this regard. (I do run a group post exchange system with multiple forum owners taki...

Re: Why is google better than other search engines?

Faster and better results. And it came along and did something different, when all the other SEs out there didn't improve with them.

I use MSN Messenger. I downloaded Google Talk thinking it might allow me to use them all under one roof, but alas no.

AdSense integration

Hello I'm looking for original ways in which to incorporate AdSense ads into phpBB forums. At the moment, I just have a strip across the top but the CTR is low. I was wondering if something like flyertalk.com use might be more effective. Has anyone any good examples of Google AdSense integration wit...

Merging my phpBB forum with another forum I'm interested in

I am interested in buying a sports-related board that runs on IPB 1.3. The individual forums on that board are broadly similar to those on my own sport board. Do you know if there's any way in which I could easily merge the two boards (and continue running as phpBB), or is this wishful thinking? Tha...

I think the problem here might be down to us trying to change the default settings. We tried to make it so that new registrants were always notified of replies, and assumed they would change it if they didn't want this as a default option. However, when they do change it, the change is overruled. Is...

Always notify of replies

I seem to have a problem on our board whereby a member requests that they no longer want email notifications by editing their Profile settings, then goes back to their Profile settings only to find it reverts back to the earlier setting. Can anyone help me with what could be causing this? Thank you ...
