Why get something "pirated", if there's an official (free, open-scource) download ? Just because a tool is used for an illegal activity does not make all uses of that tool invariably linked to the illegal activity. Is anyone that uses a gun a murderer? What about police officers? V...

The sourcecode of NoseBleed is not subSilver code, so this code alone requires only around 1/3 or 1/4 of bandwidth compared to every other style you'll find around here. The top image might be big, but it's being saved in the cache. It only loads once. You can replace this with a gif file of few co...

low bandwidth / bandwidth saving themes?

Can anyone reccomend some (preferably asthetically pleasing) low bandwidth themes that will reduce the transfer that phpbb uses on my side? I did a couple searches but they seem to be a few years old and using outdated links. I did find Nosebleed (in phpbb styles demo) which would seem to be a low b...

it depends on what you remove. removing aim, icq tags will remove those from being displayed but will not adversely effect your phpbb. removing everything will give you a blank page :)

You need to update your forum and your style ... Visual confirmation is included as default feature since the remote 2.0.11 Actually, I don't think it's turned on by default. I try to keep my forum uptodate, but I usually don't read the change logs. I didn't even know visual confirmation was a feat...

Hi, I'm trying to run this query to select the most recent topics from all the forums: SELECT DISTINCT a.topic_id, a.post_time, b.username, b.user_id, c.topic_title FROM bbs_posts a, bbs_users b, bbs_topics c WHERE a.poster_id = b.user_id AND c.topic_id = a.topic_id ORDER BY a.post_time DESC LIMIT 1...

from what I understand, mySQL preforms better for the smaller to mid size forums. When your forum grows really big, the general impression seems to be that postgreSQL handles it much better. I've never had any experience with anything other mySQL. My forum has 1000+ users, 100K+ posts, and it seems ...

Santa is a Bandwidth Hog

So I am pretty good about upgrading to the latest version of phpbb within a day or two of the inital release, mostly because I'm paranoid like that. I'm using 2.0.11 right now with php 4.3.10. So no worries, right? Well, no quite. My site isn't all that big and uses anywhere from 70-150 megs a day i...
