Re: Advanced Visual Anti Bot

This MOD can stop the majority of bots from registering to your forum. But it can't stop the bots which have been activated from posting spam posts. And it can't stop the human spammers. Well, I've been running your MOD for a week and it stops the bots cold. There was one "human spammer" that was w...

Re: Advanced Visual Anti Bot

I hope James will not mind... The zipped file has ten JPEG images that I've taken at my last trip to the beach, resized for captcha. The pictures are royalty free and you may use them if you wish so. They've been tested with James' Advanced Visual Anti Bot and phpBB 3.0.4 with no issues. The letters...

Re: Advanced Visual Anti Bot

..... Before I had foreground and background noise turned on so much that the characters couldn't even be seen by humans. Now I turned OFF the foreground noise (the "grid") and the characters are perfectly legible, yet the bots can't seem to be able to read them now... I'm sure it won't be perfect,...

Re: Advanced Visual Anti Bot

It's a great MOD and really easy to install; thanks...

I just have one question about the "grid" that's been laid over the picture. If I create my own images, is it necessary to use the "grid"?
TIA...

Re: New user registration limits...

Thanks Pit...
It seems that the admin approval requirement slows them down already; I'll look at some of the suggestions in your link.
Thanks again...

New user registration limits...

I have a board with phpBB 3.0.4 version that works well. The registration requires admin approval that based on the new members' IP; the board is limited to the US only. It's more of a subject matter that dictates this than anything else. As of late, I've been getting 20-30 registration attempt from...

Re: What's the safest way to update 3.0.0 to 3.0.4?

I've just updated from 3.0.0 to 3.0.4 as suggested by Eric; the process worked well with couple of issues. Self inflicted issues: I forgot to upload the original config.php, not much of a problem. The database_update.php file redirected me to the install documentation page, nice. Once the config.php...

Re: Extended URL BB-Code-Button as in "URL Query"-Mod

Well, you are not the only one and my search on the subject came up only with your request for "URL Query"-Mod. Anyone has a link for entering the URL via a popup instead of the current [url=http....[/url] text based posting the URL? The not so computer savvy members can do "wonders" with the text b...

You just can't let it go ;) ; alright, the site is blocking a single IP address instead of the range.
Again, thanks for your help...

Re: User stats for new phpBB 3.0 forum...

I very much doubt its a zombie machine its more likely the software being used on it is rather broken or being exploited. Take a look at the user agent of the requests it contains a usual firefox string for a Linux machine but with an extra bit appended as shown by my logs: 203.80.162.204 - - [03/M...

Re: User stats for new phpBB 3.0 forum...

Makes no difference to them, the bots will extrct any emails addresses in a nice package. ;) A lot of them are run from zombie machines so they aren't even using their own resources. Yeah, those zombie machines are getting on my nerves; on average about 60% of the spam is coming from them on my ema...

Re: Hiding template HTML pages

You could just drop an .htaccess in your styles folder that just says "deny from all". It should only block requests for styles -- other HTML files in different directories will be safe. I did that and it removed, well, the styles; both the header/footer decoration disappeared and so did the backgr...

Re: User stats for new phpBB 3.0 forum...

BTW I would just block the one offending IP that domain name based block is very very wide and may block harmless users. Thanks for the heads up, but this forum is intended for the US only. Finally the host company replied to my request and looked at the log; here's what they said: I've just verifi...

Re: User stats for new phpBB 3.0 forum...

Don't add it to the phppbb htaccess, add it or create one in your web root, e.g. http://www.yoursite.com/.htaccess You're right, might as well block the network from Australia in the web root as such: order allow, deny deny from 203.80.162. deny from .net.au allow from all <Files "config.php"> Order...
